Thanks all. I now realise I was confused re the number of leads. Have now ordered the suggested one from eBay and look forward to fitting the kit - but hopefully not having to use them!

Re: Offside front mysterious metallic noise!
Mystery sorted. The new cast hubs were just slightly different in size, which allowed the calliper to move 1mm closer to the disc. That was just enough for the carrier and disc to make contact on a right turn. On dismantling thin score lines were visible. The carrier was removed and ground down. All...

Re: Interesting untraceable noise!
I’ve been off the site for a while as I live quite a lot of my retirement time in Kefalonia. Thanks for earlier comments .UJs etc were all changed. The answer to my strange noise was eventually traced to the difference in heating from the alloy hub with the steel bearings. Replaced with cast ones an...

Re: fuel
I tend to do a few regular 40 mile motorway runs and use additive on each fill up. Two years ago I took part in a Wolseley Rally and we all stopped at a Shell garage. I filled up with their top unleaded petrol as an experiment. Totally amazed at how much smoother the car ran and had better accelerat...

Offside front mysterious metallic noise!
Hi guys and gals. A mystery for you Minor sleuths! This is beating my former police detective skills!! My 1967 convertible was acquired some years ago with Ford front disc conversion. A slight bizarre knocking after 40/50 miles run was eventually traced last year to heating differences between the s...

Fitting hazard lights kit
I’m confused! I’ve read two different views here regarding a 4 or 6 lead hazard flasher kit. Some folks infer that using 4 leads and the existing flasher unit can causes problems, whilst others say that you must have a six lead with secondary separate faster flasher unit. The 4 lead is cheaper of co...

Re: 155 Nankang or 145 Bridgestone
Sorry for delay in responding. 28psi all round appears to be the recommended pressure for radial under normal load. Car responds well with those pressure, corners well and held the road well in a large downpour earlier.
Cheers

Re: 155 Nankang or 145 Bridgestone
I just got five Bridgestone 145’s from Four Tyres, Werrington Road, Stoke on Trent at £79 each. Beautiful ride on them with very positive light steering. Personally, I would prefer to assess my tyres on braking under poor conditions. Function before form. Tyres that wear more quickly, but have good...

Powder Coating Company
In case other members are interested - just had all five wheels sand blasted then powder coated in Old English White, all for £100. Expectionally good work I must say and I’m very pleased with the results. Photos attached. I have no connection with the company other than being a very satisfied custo...

Noisy exhaust like a V8!
Hi there. I’ve just completed a 300 road trip and Molly behaved impeccably. However by the time I got back she had a marvellous V8 roar from the exhaust. I assumed a hole or leaking down pipe clamp but all is ok. Blocking the end of the pipe stops the engine almost immediately. A mystery to me so wo...

Re: Gearbox cross member bolts
It's the nut that's captive.........or not, in this case! To get at it you need to lift the gearbox cover/floor panel off. If the crossmember seems solid enough - leave well alone...... Hi there I discovered whilst rust proofing a nearside missing bolt on the gearbox support. Been missing fo...

Re: Tyre age
Thank you for all the advice and views. Going to place an online order for five new tyres but will keep with145 14 as the 155 14 just won’t fit in the spare wheel space without really forcing it. Have also found a firm in Digbeth, Birmingham to renovate existing rims for £30 each. Hoping that powder...

Re: Tyre age
Thank Bob. All noted and will do that. The £35 was for shot blasting and powder coating but not providing tyres. Have decided to get new wheels while I’m at it because at least one has a very slow leak, probably through a rusty rivet. Out of interest what psi do you run at. There seems to be figures...

Re: Tyre age
Thank you all. Will be ordering tyres ASAP and probably get rims shot blasted and powder coated. Have just found a firm in Birmingham that will also remove the old tyres and then replace with my new ones for £35 per tyre. You have all confirmed what I was thinking and will act pronto. I like the ide...

Tyre age
I have a set of tyres on my convertible that are 19 years old. They have covered just under a thousand miles and the car has been garaged for twenty years, moved every month to spread the weight on the tyres. Side walls look perfect and no signs of cracking. I’m loathe to change them unless necessar...
