I am pretty sure that you can buy dipstick extenders on E-bay so you dont have to actually buy any oil.

Really good work there.
Might be worth thinking about fitting a heated front screen. I cannot believe the difference it has made on damp mornings!.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Dave, This was a dipstick fault and there was a recall in 1972 and all affected vehicles were issued with a longer dipstick!  Seriously though, My Traveller appears low for quite a while afrer a run but eventually is at normal level. I think there is quite a lot of leeway from low on th...

Don't bother with second hand rubbish. Go to Comptons. Get one made by the experts as featured in many Minor articles. enquiries@comptons2000.co.uk The price for the full cover including all straps and buckels is £250.00 plus a £15.00 carriage. And the cost of the tonneau is £125.00 Both are really ...

Local Paper did an article on me!!
Not sure why but I got a call out of the blue from Jersey Evening Post Friday Motoring Section, answered some questions and had a few pics taken. :D Quality probably not too good! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/stouen/014-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/stouen/015-1.jpg http://i...

David
Hope you had a good Christmas. Hope the New Year looks brighter!
Look forward to seeing progress as you are pretty close to a useable vehicle.

Re: 1971 Jersey Pickup Restoration
I have ordered some mirrors as I was not happy with lack of visibility! I think for now I will cable tie the straps so they cant chip the paint as I am not 100% sure about using the back cover. I really like the bare pickup look. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/stouen/006-6.jpg At work with m...

Re: 1971 Jersey Pickup Restoration
Thanks for the kind comments.
I am yet to take it for a drive, but am not sure what to do with the bits that are supposed to strap to the tailgate. The small buckles have been supplied, but I really am not keen to drill holes in the nice new steel.
I think I will see how it flaps about first.

Re: 1971 Jersey Pickup Restoration
Currently trying to sort Tonneau and main cover, Comptons have done a fantastic job making the covers!! Hoops did not fit very well, the rear one is about 40mm higher than the rest but I am not sure if this really matters. Some pics, comments greatly appreciated!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...

Re: Pickup restoration part three
David, On the clutch, the return spring usually goes in the other hole so it is in line, it also looks like the lock nut is at the end of the threaded rod instead of tight on the other once adjustment is sorted. Dont forget ear defenders when you take your first drive, I was quite suprised how noisy...

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Dave, marine ply is very expensive, a decent quality exterior grade Malaysian ply will do the job just fine with a few coats of varnish. I have this as my long term plan is to make a bed out of t&g ash when I get around to machining some up.

Re: Insurance Question
Well I have to say I am very impressed with RH, I got a call today to say they have accepted the valuation for £25000 and as soon as I pay, I will be covered with the agreed value. Premium £171 for myself and wife to drive.
