One point to note is that the commercials have a seperate chassis numbering system to other MMs!

Try Ray Newalls "Original Morris Minor" book. Excellent for that sort of stuff.

An NZ one!

Yes! Here in New Zealand we did continue LCV production until '73 with some not registered until '74. Our chassis numbers fit into the UK numbering system and it seems the number was issued on shipping rather than assembly. So for example my '57 4 dr (FAH55509077) fits to about March '57 in UK but w...

The Lowlights and early highlight MMs had a much higher cut for the wheel arch in the rear 'wings' (as you guys call them). The later 1000 and 1098s had more panel area and shapes over the tyre better. Note photos of them and you will see they are quite different. (Ray Newalls Original Morris Minor ...

Here in New Zealand we aren't ment to touch our own chassis. It is ment to be done by a certified welder, unless the weld is taken and certified later at an expense. I had work done on my chassis by a non cert welder (it was very minor work) and took it to the testing station to have it looked at as...

Here is what I found to work well. Surface rust; Sand back and treat with Jenolite, (Be careful how you wash off the jenolite, Wahsing off with water, which they reccommend, can cause the rust to appear again in a real short time.) I treated and let dry then used a sanding disk on the grinder and bu...

My car (FAH55509077) translates to: Morris Minor Four Door CKD Finish RHD CKD Primer 509077 I think it works out to about March 57 in UK but was registered here in December. :-? (pre the '58 change to D for deluxe Cam) It certainly has overriders, in fact I don't know that any NZ MMs were without th...

Were not some of these things you mention made standard on most saloons later?

The one I have interest in is '57. 8)

Of course the story may be different here in NZ, That's actually what I'm trying to figure; Were there Deluxe and non deluxe in NZ? Or were we all deluxe or all non deluxe?

How does one determine between a deluxe and a standard MM? :-?

I understand they have different seat patterns etc, but what else?

I mean they don't exactly have 'Deluxe' written accross the boot like moderns.

Tubes

Interesting regarding the tubes, I had a simular case when I went in to have my tyres put back on the rims after painting. When I took them off two had tubes (the spare with a crossply and one other) three were running tubless. Due to the extra expense on the bill I asked them why they went ahead to...

Re metal thickness - I've just spent two weeks working on my MM ute and used 1.2mm panel steel. It was slightly thicker than the original as the welding grips tended to grip on the thicker steel only. (it was all I could get locally). Also to add to it, the panels had been blasted on both sides befo...

Yip they are definitly along the tunnel on the later cars at least. I went armed with the digi camera to check it out. :P (but I can't find the photo to post it)

I have only had much to do with later cars and mainly 4drs.

Interesting what pops up from everyones knowledge (or lack of it) :D

Underfloor treatment

I have my MM stripped down at present and am due to paint the top coat in the next day or so :P

Can you lot give me your suggestions for what to do under the floor and gaurds (wings)?

Should I paint it body colour? in the same paint? Use a more 'rubbery' paint? Under seal? what prep?

Apparently Viva rims fit to Minor hubs. (But check that before buying any.)

Of course the width will be a different issue, and I'm not sure that the original hub caps will fit.

See what you can find.

Newagetraveller is right, In my 73 ute there is a z shape bracket under the glovebox liner which supports it. They are toward the centre of the vehicle beside the large round aperture underneath the dash. If you reach up under there you should feel it. Its about 2cm wide and the same hight from memo...

I understand Viva wheels bolt straight on, also the Viva brake system can be made to fit fairly easy. I 'm not talking from experience here, just what a fellow who has done a bit of that kinda stuff with them.

NZ Body Colours

Reading through the other body colours section I see there are a few of you that are colour wise - now I'm wondering if you can help me with MM colours in New Zealand? I have colour charts for '64-'74 of the company that assembled them in NZ, but do not know which of the colours on the charts were u...
