Re: Osmo Oil - Traveller Wood

As long as it's not the interior stuff. The interior stuff opens up the grain of the wood giving a great effect but the opposite of waterproof.

I love it when armchair experts comment on stories without reading up on it first. That's why the Daily Mail has so many readers, they're all incapable of making their own minds up.

Re: Smaller steering wheel

I think the original Mini wheel is smaller but looks very similar to the Minor one.

Usually one or two on Ebay

Re: Fitting a gps tracker

There are quite a few trackers on Ebay. As they are sim based, some of them can take instructions via sms to, for example, switch a circuit on or off. The minimum they need to get running is just continuous live and earth. You can add in alarm sirens and cut into other circuits. Personally I've foun...

Re: We've done this before but....

Even young Minor owners get old:) Cost of entry to Minor ownership has become higher, particularly to young drivers. Insurance is astronomical these days. Nobody fixes anything because a)Things are too small. Hands up who dismantled an old rotary dial phone and played with all the bits? Now hands up...

Re: Minor for daily use

I've been looking at Charles Ware and have had preliminary discussions with them around my requirements (disc brakes, 1098 or 1275cc, electronic ignition, inertia reel seatbelts, electric water skooshers...that kind of thing). They have said they can provide a fully structurally restored, wax injec...

Re: reproduction rear light bases on a 67 saloon dont fit !!

Presumably that is the larger sized later rear light pattern. The universal problem is that the original base moulding was cast in 'Masak' metal , a particular alloy recipe , as you may already be aware. My originals were also very badly pitted so any autojumble I attend has always meant a search f...

Re: Any pictures of any customs members have started building

Yes,as having a 2.0 zetec, servo and skinny tyres, (plus the fact that I'm too old to do Cadence braking ),means that decent braking is a must...have had it on my Lotus Elan Plus2 for years...and it works a treat, recovered from the donor Focus ( was searching for the ECU for ages until I discovered ...

Re: Wishful thinking?

Sothebys have just sold an original one owner '52 VW beetle for £49,000. I can't help thinking this is a bubble which will burst sooner or later. The first series of 'New Beetle' can be had for less than 1/100 that -£450 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201703183417508?make=VOLKSWAGEN&...

Re: Inserting dinitrol

Thats a great way of injecting the stuff in, I did drill two small holes right at the very front of the legs so I could attack them from that end as well, you can get the plugs to put in afterwards. The ultimate way of getting the stuff in is with one of the proper wax injection guns with a compres...

Re: Wishful thinking?

Another slant on this is what you can buy for the same money as a £4000 or £9000 Minor. Or even a £1000 rotten pear. Yes insurance could be a deal breaker, something expensive could break but a Minor might have exorbitant hidden rust. When I got my first Minor (1982!) it was all I could afford, thes...

All this talk of sticking engines in the back of hatchbacks. Be sure to strap down with decent straps to something solidso it doesn't fly forwards if you brake suddenly.

Re: Milometer makes you smile

Whilst it is never too much of a Problem that the speedometer measures mph as the main indicator, the fact that the odometer records only in miles done is a pain because it cannot easily be related to anything on the maps or road signs. However :D :D - I have managed to get hold of a rare second Ha...

Very interesting! Did you get to talk to the creators and did they give any specifications on the engines performance? No, there were others in line but I opened up a dialogue on Facebook. There's an electric motor connected to the standard gearbox, batteries in the engine compartment and some wher...

Electric Minor at Excel Classic Car show

Did anyone see the electric Minor at the show? I thought very it was very impressive. The company is planning to electrify classic cars that are used in London where the pollution laws may start to impinge on our cars and the average journeys are low. https://www.facebook.com/LondonElectricCars/ Not...
