Re: Cant enter the members area

I can't believe this forum facility is actually paid for, considering my experience of websites/forums operated by self taught amateurs .... There's not even a decent range of Smilies, such as 'shaking head in despair' ...
Best we can manage is Rolling Eyes

Re: 2 door VAE 306H

Looking very good.
That little plate to stop the passenger door catch rubbing the door card is very interesting, I've not seen that before.
Is that your concoction or something that was on some of the originals?

Re: Dizzy Points

Geoberni - I think Staton Abbey was more informed than just a car salesman. Apart from the useful book I mentioned, he also wrote similar books for the Morris 8 and Morris Minor, the Volkswagon Beetle, Automobile Transmission Servicing and Overhaul, Diesel Fault Tracing, Maintainance and Repair, th...

Ummmm.... AMIMI..... Associate Member of the Institute of the Motor Industry , so not really anything that special; it's only one step up from, 'I just started yesterday' That's not to belittle anyone who is/was a member of the IMI, after all, we all have to start somewhere, but this level is...

Re: Panels etc misalighment

Thanks for all the replies. As kennatt has said, I'd guessed that the best alignment datum is the V of the centreline, which was off by about 3/8", towards the side that is rubbing. I've managed to align that a bit better and get the scuttle/bonnet gap a bit more even, but still there's a rub. ...

Re: Dizzy Points

Years ago, when points, electro-mechanical voltage regulators and other such items were common, you used to be able to get 'Contact Files'. I remember have a set of 2, one Red the other Blue handled, being 2 different grades, just for doing such items. I don't ever remember chucking them so they mig...

Re: Panels etc misalighment

check the adjustment of the hinges and the brace under the bonnet may just need it there. So at the weekend, we tried all manner of things to get the needed clearance on the nearside wing, but no change. The bonnet is now sitting a bit squarer in front of the windscreen, but still rubs on the wing....

Re: wiring loom

It's worth carrying spare fuses in the spaces provided on that fuse panel . I've got several in the travelling tool kit  I'm considering some wiring changes to provide some individual fuses for services - with my electrical background it's just so wrong to have a load of stuff on one large fu...

Re: Wiring loom in dash

Totally rewriting this as I got onto a red herring from Les' comment about I don't know if your model is different but my heater hoses run through bulkhead holes fitted with grommets. The wiring harness runs elsewhere. You're referring to the layout inside the car under the dash. Here's a pho...

Re: Another Control Box!

I'm a bit suspicious of the battery then. What's it's condition? if you've not got one wired in, can you get hold of an ammeter and see what sort of current iit's taking immediately after you've started the car? I'd expect about 5-6 Amps charging if the battery is in reasonable condition. if you're ...

Mine has a rheostat too, it's the one with the big cream surround on the dash. It's good that it has clear markings as to how it operates.

Re: Splity heater

I don't find the lack of a fresh air intake an issue . I thought that was what the gaps in the doors and windows were for !!! That and the fact that what many people call 'quarter lights' are actually called Ventilators in the manual :D The round heater is an effective unit, throws out a lot of hea...

Re: Another Control Box!

What's your electrical load like? The original book says that they don't normally require adjustment, but that was an era long ago when people didn't have any extra electrical load. Cutting a very long and technical story short, the Regulator controls the electrical generation circuitry by opening a...

A nicely illustrated report. :D
Have a pat on the back for getting it done with minimal facilities. (I wish we had a Thumbs up emoticon)
Let's hope a Mod can move this topic for you; from personal experience it's a simple enough task which takes about 3 mouse clicks.

Re: Spotted today.

Went to Newark Autojumble yesterday, wasn't as busy as last month, but as it was winding up, the 'classics' carpark in addition to my splitie (which was out of shot behind me), had this green van and a black traveller. In fact if you look closely, the Morris brand was well represented amongst the re...

Re: Panels etc misalighment

Thanks Stevey. I already know the doors are going to need adjustment, it was reassembled with the wrong door seals, with this profile Seal 1.JPG instead of the B style. The door bottom edges even have some sort of aluminium strip, edged with 'fuzzy felt' (suspect it's supposed to be window seal) ins...

Re: Splity heater

Must have been an upmarket model you've got; depending on the car, they didn't necessarily have a heater!

My 55 Splitie has a Tudor after market heater, which is like a Hamerite Grey..... and I'm pretty sure the hoses to the demisters are from a washing machine!!

Panels etc misalighment

Since getting my 2 door splitie a couple of months ago, I've become aware that the average quality respray that was done in recent years has been compounded by the removable parts, i.e. doors, bonnet and wings (the boot seem OK) being thrown back on. While one of the rear wings is the most noticeabl...

I assume you haven't got a copy of the manual then. :( There is a PDF download available at a certain other MMO website homepage  and I assume you'll find the wiring diagrams in there, since they are in the hard copy. Re: coil failure

I agree with Mike about not always jumping at the 'obvious' i.e. trying to fix a symptom rather than thinking out what the root cause is. It's a common problem these days in our 'Consumer Society', it's easy to jump at the 'obvious choice' and replace something rather than work out what is really wr...
