Re: Rear brake shoes
I thought that the rear bearings were lubricated by the diff oil. Yes, as originally intended and designed; but I imagine the bearings we get now, just as with the bearings fitted 70 years ago, are simply the appropriate size, 'off-the-shelf'. Bearings back then were always supplied as made, for lu...

Re: Rear brake shoes
Modern bearing are often packed with grease and 'sealed for life'; on the principle that if it's sealed the grease can't escape, so reducing maintenance and the chances that it will fail due to lack of lubrication.

Re: Tachometer wiring check
I'm not by any means knowledgeable about aftermarket Tachometer installation, I've never had one, but that Red wire which is presumably power worries me. As an electrical engineer, I dislike cables wound around other cables like that, it's creating an electromagnetic field; probably too small to int...

Re: Multimeter recommendation
The analogue one shown should cover all your everyday needs. Some people have difficulty reading/understanding the multitude of scales shown on the face of an analogue meter.... The fuse in most digi multi meters (DMM) will only protect the low current circuits (often 200mA or 400mA range) the high...

Re: Multimeter recommendation
£16, that's a high starting point.... I totally understand your confusion as to the wide range. There's obviously the bottom end of the market, shall we say under £8 on the ebay price scale.... At the bottom end of the price range, it's probably not got a replaceable fuse inside it and the quality o...
Re: rear seat
I understand your need for the question, it's not an obvious thing when researching it.
So you have a 4 dr, just look at some images of a 2 Dr rear for comparison. As panky has surmised, you'll see the 2Dr is a squared off fit to the side panels.

Let’s also not forget the fires caused by the batteries exploding. Numerous house fires and a few weeks ago an E-scooter caught fire on the platform at Epsom station. Had that been on a packed train it would have been disastrous. Stephen A lot of the problem with the privately purchased ones is the...

In the East Midlands this morning, it was announced that 'Trial Scooters' are coming back to Nottingham after the previous Scooter provider suddenly closed down in December. The Scooters will come from the same company that are currently providing the e-bikes in the city. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/...

Re: Vacuum Advance.
Back in 2018 when I was having 'dead ignition' issues, although that was eventually traced to an intermittent Coil, I found that the Diaphragm on the Dissy was leaking. I ordered one from the ebay account of a reputable Ign parts supplier. The hole/thread in the Adjuster was crooked; I had to swap t...

If I remember, it was illegal to park on a road without lights then. These overcame that requirement and were perfectly legal. I believe parking lights were required on unlit Road. These days we don't realise, or remember if old enough, what road conditions were like 60+ years ago. The National Spe...

You've got a '68, try doing the rain in a Split Screen... But seriously I can't imagine fitting a 2 speed is difficult on a 1000 at least the motor is easy to get at. Of course, what the relative speeds are, and whether it's actually a big improvement or not, is a good question hopefully someo...

Re: Windscreen Sealing
I used a tube of MANNOL WINDSCREEN SEALANT, currently about £12 for a 310ml tube on ebay. I had a leak somewhere along the edge of my '55 windscreen, leaving a puddle on the passenger's rubber floor mat. I put a bead of this all around it and no problems since. I just looked up when I brought it and...

My Clamp on, from ESM, is fitted as shown.
(Photo originally taken to show the Parking Light I'd obtained from ebay)
You can make out the scuff marks where a PO had fitted one, but it wasn't fitted that well and it was too high for my liking, obstructing my view.

Just make sure that there is good metal to metal contact between Tank and Body Shell somewhere, DON'T just rely on the screws to perform that function.

Unlike you I would be most concerned if the connections were flush. How can you be certain they have correctly screwed down if they are flush? I had a 37 year career in aircraft engineering and I would never expect to see a flush pipe Union in the way you speak of.... :-? I can't think of any brakes...

I was driving just out of Chesham going towards Great Missenden this afternoon a road I've used loads of times even on Saturday when I just happened to look left and there was three Morris Minor saloons in a field and looked as if they have been there a while. Re: Manifold Work Tips?
Removing the Carburettor, and refitting it, is quite easy, I would say the fiddliest bit is reconnecting the Throttle and Choke Cables correctly. Especially the bit about twisting the Choke Cable, or 'mixture control' as the Workshop Manual calls it (see fig B18 in the Manual). Perhaps 'famous last ...
