Re: Voltmeter -false low readings

Hi Nickol So, referencing the diagram, to make sure I've understood your quite clear description. A = 10v B = 13v (good battery charge) C = 13v D = 10v Nickol.JPG Yes, I'd say you have a poor connection at one or more of the points I've coloured yellow. Possibly at all of them just half a volt or so...

Re: tyre pressures

You shouldn't need to go much higher than the manufacturer recommended in the first place. Some experimentation is fine and different makes of tyres might run better at slightly different pressures but these are the recommended pressures copied from the original driver's handbook. Interesting that ...

Re: 1098 Thermostat Housing??

The thermostat housing with temp take off was not a standard item on a 1098cc as all the 1098cc heads had a temp take off facility as standard. That's what I thought. my car's already sorted with a sensor in the 1098 Head, I was just surprised that the Parts Catalogue showed it like that; hence ask...

Re: tyre pressures

I think people generally use around 28 with Radials. But keep an eye on the tread wear as different makes will have an effect too. What a lot of people forget about tyres is that the inflation pressure is whatever keeps the tyre, as fitted to that vehicle, in the correct shape for safe driving. The ...

1098 Thermostat Housing??

I've just noticed in the AKD 3541 Service parts List, that the listing for the 10MA engine only shows a Thermostat Housing with the facility to fit a Temp Sensor. Websites such as Moss Europe show it as an alternative for any Minor engine, but it's also listed 'NCA'. Was this really the standard fit...

63 4 door with the round heater, I put a new reostat in middle of last year after a few month it's smoothness went and is now very graunchy. This morning I went out and after a few Mile's I got a smell of burning. I know they get hot but this is a hot hot. Is there a better reostat than the normal ...

Re: recommending engine oil.

Yes indeed. I was in a well known car parts shop today and I was absolutely shocked by the price of the latest super oils for modern cars. Shocking! We are lucky the oils we need are cheap in comparison. Mind you, the service intervals for modern cars are much, much longer so the oil cost per mile ...

Re: recommending engine oil.

Any 20W/50 Traditional Oil marketed for Classic Cars, Older Cars etc. 'Mineral Oil' is something derived from actual Oil, rather than synthetic as used by Modern cars. To quote Wikipedia Synthetic oil is a lubricant consisting of chemical compounds that are artificially modified or synthesised. Synt...

Re: Beehive Springs -again!

Well I've never had a problem with fitting the Beehives, the problem I had was one of them detaching itself because it was too loose. I refitted it and really must get around to looking for a replacement. It was the rusty brown one, which as you can see is the same overall length as the other one, b...

Blockley's seem to be available with no problem. I had a full set fitted at the back end of last year.
More than happy with the quality and the ride.

Well that photo is so close it's impossible to see what you're talking about.
But I'm assuming you're referring to all the chrome trim on the front of the car.
As car as I'm aware, irrespective of year, all the shiny bits were always chrome plated.

Brilliant. Thanks for that. We came back to the UK from France last year. In France the MOT for classic cars was every five years. You can pretty much sum up the situation here as being that government research found that generally: A - Classics made up a very small percentage of the cars on the ro...

Hello I'm sorry for how your call was responded to, the Regional branches have their details publicly published and whomever you contacted should have known that. However, a local branch can't help with DVLA enquiries, it has to be done via the Club Head Office in Derbyshire. Email them on info@mmoc...

As Phil says, right up on the top. It's stamped on there but not necessarily the clearest of markings. Took me a bit of cleaning and several phone photos to get one at the right angle to read. Eventually confirmed it as an 8/43. As I recall, it's on the top surface just above where the Brake Pipe ju...

Yes. Probably....
Simply because on a '59 they are not factory fit, so are an aftermarket addition.
Often, an aftermarket single filament lamp holder only has a supply connection and earth is via the body fixing.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump SU v Hardi

Back On Topic Time I'm just advising that the Hardi is not a direct replacement for 'Fit, Form and Function'. It delivers almost twice the pressure of the SU, so the Carb float has more work to do in shutting off the fuel flow. I'm just pointing out that fitting a Hardi may reveal other issues due t...
