Re: Fitting new drop links - what am I doing wrong?!

I would expect you have compared new to old, but for reference, I have measured the tapered section on a droplink that was removed from my car - metric measurements. Length of taper 12mm, large diameter 12.2mm, small diameter 10.6mm. Their recent replacements are the same size. Unless Armstrong cha...

Re: Fitting new drop links - what am I doing wrong?!

Well, just for reference, as I've no idea how long it's been since you took the car apart, I just found this in my image library of random photos I've taken of my car. But of course this link is going to be at least 20 years old when it was taken (going from when my car was major rebuilt), not a mod...

Re: Fitting new drop links - what am I doing wrong?!

Are you saying the fixing doesn't go into the hole on the lever arm?. :-? Is the Drop Link lining up correctly? Have you tried the link in the fitting, before fitting the top to where it hangs? Is it the same problem both sides? It seems very odd, it should be similar to fitting a Track Rod End; a l...

Re: Sidelight/indicator earth

The wiring diagram Geoberni shows is not for the later lights being discussed though. It is for the earlier cars with the clear glass front lights and small red rear lights which operate as flashers using the Lucas DB10 cut-out unit shown in the diagram  Indeed, that is so. But it hardly make...

Re: Sidelight/indicator earth

Jeezzze! I only posted to highlight that, having no personal experience of post -63 cars, based on ManyMinors feedback, the diagrams are incorrect as they illustrate cable connection. However...... I would guess 'B' stands for Body e.g. as stated above, connection to 0V occurs when the lamp is screw...

Re: Sidelight/indicator earth

Exactly so. The base is metal, so should earth when screwed to the metal wing. They were never fitted with a seperate earth from the factory but if you feel you need one....it can be added of course. That's interesting (never having seen one myself), the W/S manual diagrams for those latter cars st...

Sorry, shiny stuff seems to make my mind default to 'Chrome' as a description...

The choices of finish supplied do seem a bit random don't they....

Re: stainless window frames what model?

Your question was about Stainless window frames, but then broadened to frames in general Other's have already mentioned relative dimensions, LCV used same as 4dr, as it doesn't need to provide access to a rear seat. 2dr, Traveller and Tourer all use a wider door for rear access. As to Chrome Surroun...

Re: Horn mechanism for 1966 minor

Does anyone know what type of horn mechanism was fitted in 1966 minors? See photo. Thanks If you're looking for accuracy of equipment for a particular year, I suggest your best bet is to find a copy of AKD3541 online and then you can readily cross check part numbers to Car numbers. I don't think St...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump SU v Hardi

Hi there folks. I had minor problem with fuel pump (sticky points) and have considered that at Monty's age (56) I might just change the fuel pump complete and have looked at SU vs Hardi on the ESM website (I trust ESM and am sure they will be selling the correct Hardi pump to suit the pressure need...

Re: ignition light

The simplest explanation is that while fitting the wiring for the Electronic Ign you've disturbed the field (thin wire) connection to the Dynamo/Alternator.

Look at what you've done in fitting the Electronic Kit. You've connected something wrongly somewhere.....

Re: electric fuel pump?

Hi Be wary of that braided fuel line, When I got my car (2017), it had ordinary rubber hose, but the PO had a new braided one, same end as that one, in the boot ready to fit. To the best of my memory, I fitted it in 2019 sometime. Around this time last year, after several months of sitting in the ga...

Re: Octane value in the sixties

I don't think 3-star fuel is the same as E10 is it? The old star rating would have contained lead for a start. I'm not sure whether they also contained ethanol back then though. A lot of petrol contained ethanol. There's loads about it online. But nobody got uptight about it like now, possibly beca...

Re: electric fuel pump?

Tapping the fuel pump did the trick, hoping it might continue to work ok now. Thanks very much for the input :tu1: Geoberni - The car has only done around 100 miles or so in that four years. I've spent a lot of my spare time fixing things done incorrectly or not well enough, by the previous owner's...

It's been all out war on the FB Group this past few days, just because a guy asked where he could get one from. It immediately poked the bear with a few saying they aren't needed. One guy posted: Not really of any use once the drum is on and adjusted. They are used to keep the shoes aligned on assem...

Phil wasn't sure from the pic what the seal was and was just guessing, would also be easier if op said what it was :tu1: I'm with you on this, I'd never have guessed that it was anything to do with a clutch, since the Minor didn't have one as built. My first thought was a brake slave cylinder, then...

The car was equipped with seat belts. I want to install them now, but I can't figure out which is which. ... The front left and right are the same and not mirrored. They should normally be mirrored. This illustration you've posted is for the Drivers side (in a RH Drive). Note the way the buckle sit...
