Re: Exhaust help

No label I’m afraid. The MM mechanic put an exhaust on from a lower CC engine I presume as it now feels a touch lethargic. He did say it was temporary though, and didn’t charge me much as I needed it back for work. Is it not straightforward what I need? Maybe I’ll just get back in touch to clarify. ...

Exhaust help

Hi, The muffler part of my exhaust fell off while driving last week. It had corroded. Its from my 62 traveller (1275cc Marina engine) I took it into a MM mechanic who replaced it with a temporary one as he didn't have the 1 1/2" bore in stock. He has said that I could buy it myself and have the...

Re: Oil leak. Engine or Gearbox?

The last engine had the choke out for quite a while before it warmed up. This one however, starts promptly and the choke is replaced quickly. I replaced the thermostat last year. Can’t quite remember which one I used but I checked the forums to see which one was recommended. Is it worth changing to ...

Re: Oil leak. Engine or Gearbox?

Still yet to check gearbox oil level. Hope to do that this weekend.

I'm getting around 20 MPG with this engine. I do a lot of short journeys, stopping and starting. Is this about right? Seems a bit low to me.

Thanks

Re: Oil leak. Engine or Gearbox?

The garage have asked me to come back after 1000 miles. I’m due to call in next weekend. I’ll ask them about it. I’m just a bit confused about the amount of oil leaking, yet the oil level seems to remain the same

Re: Oil leak. Engine or Gearbox?

The Morris minor garage did tell me that the engine does leak before I chose to buy it. They said it was normal for that engine.
I have checked the oil level over the last few weeks and it stays at the same level?

Re: Oil leak. Engine or Gearbox?

After cleaning the whole area under there, the main leak is actually coming from the point where the gold engine joins to the bell housing. Or somewhere above this point and running down. There has been a fair bit of oil leaking over the last few weeks since I got the new engine fitted. Only, the oi...

Re: Oil leak. Engine or Gearbox?

Thanks Phil.

So the oil coming from the small hole is gearbox oil? It seems pretty constant. Is that normal?

Oil leak. Engine or Gearbox?

Hi all, Another newbie question for you all (and hopefully a simple one!) I have just had a replacement reconditioned Marina 1275 engine fitted in my 1962 Traveller. I understand that oil leaks from most older type engines. However, I had a look underneath to see where the leak is originating from. ...

Re: Overheating

Yes, I took the temperature reading from the engine block. It read 58c after around 20 mins (stationary) I take it that this is an acceptable reading and that when it goes to 82c the stat will open for the coolant to circulate? I have a friend coming to stay for new year tomorrow. He is always tinke...

Re: Overheating

The engine was running for a good 20 minutes. It was reading past 140c when the coolant in the radiator was still cold. The heater in the cabin was toastie by this time. Should I be replacing the water pump?

If I almost shut the valve the water will leak. Do I need to replace the valve maybe?

Re: Overheating

The gauge slowly moves up. If there was a short wouldn’t it jump there as soon as the ignition was turned on?

Is the cool radiator a sign of anything? And are those head readings normal?

Re: Overheating

Just got it to run hot again. The right and left rear of block was 58c. Ive included a pic of the temperature reading at the time. I left the radiator cap off this time and the water was cool to touch throughout. Is the water pump not doing its job do you think? Or does leaving the cap off stop the ...

Re: Overheating

That’s an interesting point regarding the coolant mix. I was lazy and bought the ready mixed bluecol from Halfords. That’s 50/50. Maybe it was running cooler while all the rusty looking water was in there and this new temp is well within the limit? I’ve just never seen it so high so was a little con...

Re: Overheating

I could try running it without the thermostat but it’s brand new. I’ll try it though. I’ve ordered a laser thermometer from amazon so will test the temp tomorrow when it arrives. Do I just run it without the radiator cap on until the dial hits maximum and then point the laser into the open radiator?...
