Re: Brakes Help please

Hi, As BMC writes, it's easy to adjust the brakes - jack-up, remove wheel and use scredriver to adjust (remember the rear brakes adjustment needs the handbrake OFF - so chock the wheels before you jack!). Adjusting the brakes will also reduce the pedal movement (unlike modern disk brakes which self-...

Re: MOT requirements

Hi, Just to re-iterate... IF your car meets the original specification (i.e. - as supplied at first registration) then the only additional equipment that is necessary is a windscreen washer. For some reason, this is mandatory for all vehicles (e.g. post fit). All the remaining regulations allow you ...

Re: new tyres

Hi,

Normally it's "80" - so 145/80 ; 14 inch.

Good luck! - the most likely places are Bull Motif & ESM (on-line) alternatively you can find 155/80's (Toyo are good) in some suppliers.

You can still (IIRC) get hold of cross-plies 0 ir you can afford them!

Re: Austin A30 or 35.

Wallace & Grommit?

The space around the engine is very much restricted (compared with a Minor) so servicing will be a bit more of chore.

IIRC the suspension is much softer (front) - and the rear springs weaker. Be careful of the bodywork - again it's more enclosed...

Re: Fuel Pump

Hi, Where did you buy your pump from ? and how much ? ESM or Bull Motif - they sell new pumps (made by Burlen - who still make the SU fuel pump!) Or you could always make an offer - mmjosh has one (s/hand) - I have a spare one as well - remember that P&P is going to add to the cost - they're hea...

Re: Fuel Pump

Hi Andy, The problem with the fuel pump is well known - and straightforward to cure. You can consider what I did - purchase a new pump, then repair the old one. That way the car is on the road - and there's no pressure to complete the repairs... Inside the black plastic cap of the fuel pump is a set...

Re: Super unleaded in a standard Minor?

Hi, The super unleaded will make a small difference - a very small difference to the performance without changing the timing. The only thing that is noticable is that the engine won't run-on . It may also have better detergent in it that the other fuels, so it may shift a bit of the dirt - but it re...

Re: HELP IN CONNECTING UP NEW REAR LIGHTS

Hi, If you're fitting a new switch, then I'd suggest you fit a pair of LED side/brake "bulbs" I've had mine for about 30 months so far - they're a bit brighter than the tungsten ones, but .... I was getting through brake light switches every 12 months! (possibly the quality plus the arcing...

Re: Morris Minor on BBC Wales

Hi, Black splitscreen - 4 door - RHD. Pops up quite a lot, though the main action was in the Taxis - Renault Dauphines (IIRC - I thought they had all gone years ago). It's interesting that No 6 hasn't twigged that all his memories are US (LHdrive), but here he is getting in and out of RHD cars as if...

Re: help! replaced fuel pump contacts .. observations

Hi, Here's the page from Burlen:- http://www.sucarb.co.uk/TechnicalDetail.aspx?id=52 (you may need to scroll through the pages) If the pump contacts are set correctly, and the valves working - and intact diaphragm, then you should have no problems. On the pump I've just replaced the contacts, I need...

Re: Lights on a 1962

Hi, And as an added thought, the special relay used for the flasher/brake light is probably as expensive as a normal unit + the newer amber indicators (front & Back). We used to have a '62 minor - and the indicators were not that clear - even whe people expected them!. Nowadays very few people e...

Re: the perils of speed bumps

It's also worth checking the rear damper link.

Around Reading there's lots of these bumps (all shapes) and I seem to be going through these regularly.

They're not difficult to replace, but because the bolt part is held in place with vulcanised rubber thay seem a bit delicate for modern roads.

Re: petrol pump ..

Hi, if the pump is "no load" (i.e. no fuel line connected) - it will actually hum! That's lots of ticks/second. The rate of the tick (when in use) depends on how much fuel is used up. The float valve in the carburetter detenims how much fuel comes from the pump - when the pump reaches the ...

Hi, just a few random thoughts:- "cheaper insurance" - try getting estimates (by phone) from a couple of the specialist insurers that deal with Minors (Search the forum for recommentations - I'm with FJ - but there are other good ones out there). I think you'll be suprised by the premiums ...

Re: Data Recovery

Hi, Sorry to hear that. It's quite possible that yout computer hard disc is mostly ok - depends on the "crash". If the fault was due to the Motherboard/processor or powersupply, then it's odd-on that the disc is OK. If it's a disk going dead, then it's often possible to connect the hard dr...

Re: Water Injection

You'll get a noticable increase in power with fuel injection engines by using a water spray injector:- The water spray cools the incoming air so that it becomes more dense, therefore you can cram a bit more into the cylinder before the valve closes. Hence more "bang". The carburettor in th...
