Old Ambulance

Found this old ambulance in a hedge recently and only now got to go back to take some pictures. The registration (i got scraped to bits getting to it) is XIE 827 which I think refers to Belfast City. Does anyone have any information on the registration, type of ambulance is is/was and what branch of...

5 Scrapers Kildare, Ireland

Advert I saw today on Donedeal for five scrapers/restoration. Might be more suitable in the 'Scrap Yard' section though ??? (as always I have no connection with the sale or the cars. Just posting an interesting link).

Door Card material

Probably been asked many times before but does anyone know where I can buy rolls or sheets of the door card material ? Not the door card itself just the material that goes over it. Want to see if its possible or economic to recover the ones I have to match a set of new seats I may buy.

Re: Fitting modern/safer seats

Interior Seat colour advise - Trying to source a set of Ford Ka seats in Ireland and had a call today from a scrap yard offering me a set of Cream/Beige leather seats. I'm just wondering if they would go with the interior that I have in my car. The door cards are black, obviously, but the carpets w...

Re: Sill repair advise

Got the wire brush out the other day and cleaned up the front and rear inner sill on both sides as well as removing the drivers/off side kick plates. From what I can see the boxing plate and outer sill on both sides appear to be good with no rust or holes that I can see. The rot appears to be isolat...

Re: Weight of the Engine.

Is that the best way to do it ? Ie. Remove engine and gearbox together in one go rather that seperately ? Been trying to find a link to removal of both apart from the Hayes manual. I have a scrap moggie I'm trying to take apart. Most of the engine components are gone from the engine already, in part...

Weight of the Engine.

Can anyone tell me how heavy the engine is ? I want to buy a chain hook to attach to a steal joist/rafter to lift the engine out of a scrap car and need to know which one is suitable for the job.

So would I. Mind you she never goes near the big shed and has no idea of whats in it, so I could easily get away with it, until of course she sees the debit from the bank account.

Re: Do I really need another one ?

Reason would dictate that no, you do not need another car. However, if the price is right and you can do something with it... Oh I know !!!. I have one car that drives, a 4 door I'm trying to get on the road for the summer, an existing traveller restoration and a scrap 4 door. So.. No I don't reall...

Do I really need another one ?

Just been talking to a member of the Irish club about replacing the sills in my car and he mentioned he had a cream coloured traveller (project) that needs new wings, front grille and wood. I have most of that though I would have to buy new wings. Tempted, of course would have to see the car, but I ...

Re: Sill repair advise

Managed to take off the off-side kick plates and get a grinding wheel to clean up the sills and loo and behold LOTS of holes appeared :-(. (Pictures to follow). So it's inner sill/floor replacement time all round Not sure I'm capable of doing big structural work like this but if anyone has any links...

Draining Petrol Tank

No doubt asked before, but what is the safe and correct way to drain the fuel tank of petrol before doing any work underneath the car (grinding, welding etc) ? I know to undo the bolt in the underneath of the petrol tank, open the fuel cap and let the fluid drain for a while into a bucket or whateve...

Re: Sill repair advise

I have to get back to clean it up yet. There was certainly a lot of rust flakes in the box section to clean up with the hoover and get a grinder/wheel on the bottom to clean up the underneath to see what it looks like. There is one more hole at the very front of the inner sill near the base ot the A...

Sill repair advise

In removing the kickplates to gain access to the box section on my car to fit front seat belts I discovered a bit of flakey rust inside the box section. For the most part the sill and floor is very good but there are some small holes in three places in the inner sill and some where the inner sill me...

KAS 770 - Work continues.

More work conducted on KAS today when I attacked the nearside kickplates to try and open up the sill area for fitting of the front seatbelts and waxoiling the inside. What a job it was !!! Had to use the angle grinder just to get the bolts off but considering they hadn't been removed for over 50year...

Fitting modern/safer seats

Toying with the idea of fitting safer/modern seats to my four door. I see a few other cars have them fitted and I was wondering what type seat they are or where could I source a set (what car ?) ??? Plan to fit a bigger (1098) heater as well as an anti-roll bar and disc brakes as we want to use this...

Re: Fitting rear seat belt

What you don't see is my other black 62 two door behind, a 69 traveller waiting its turn someday at restoration and a red four door thats fit for nothing but scrap, but I plan (someday) to make it into a trailer or somethi...

Re: Fitting rear seat belt

Do you have some spare door rubber? Thought of that and cut some window rubber to fit and experimented - This would work ? Looks untidy but with the upright seat in place your never going to see it and the important thing is to prevent damage to the belt in the long run. (PS -sorry, forgot to menti...

Re: Fitting rear seat belt

You've done everything exactly how mine was fitted. Congratulations! You even made a nice looking slot in the parcel shelf. Cool. Thanks. That is reassuring :D Does that make sense???? Ehhh. No, not really. Do you mean how to get the buckle through the slot ?? If so I've already made the slot big e...

KAS 770 - Work in progress.

Managed to get some time to fit the seatbelts during the week. Starting with the rear before moving on to the fronts. I managed to mount the real on the back of the seat as shown in previous threads and cut a hole in the parcel shelf for the belt and then bolted it to the bottom at the wheel arch. H...
