Re: Springs in 25D distributor

As usual Phil, you are an absolute gent. Thank you SO much. I'll swap my springs back to the way they were before.

Re: Springs in 25D distributor

So I have just swapped my springs over so they look like this picture. Does anyone know if this is the correct way around?

Springs in 25D distributor

Hi. Does it matter which way around the distributor springs should be i.e., which posts they are attached to? I took my weights out a while ago because they were seized and lubricated them very sparingly. Now they seem to slide around quite nicely when the springs aren't attached and I THOUGHT I rem...

Re: Colourtune

Well I would imagine it's to make it completely clear to people which way to adjust. if they don't make it clear, someone's going to get it wrong. Guaranteed. Anyone with any sort of engineering background would almost certainly understand that directions to turn something clockwise or anticlockwis...

Re: Colourtune

Hi MorrisJohn. Yes I did manage to get one from eBay, thank you for asking. The box was knackered but the bits you use were pretty much unused. I'd go so far as to say it had probably been used just once. I have now used it as well and I found that you could turn the mixture nut quite a lot whilst s...

Re: Would you choose Lucas parts?

It seems like those Chinese parts are getting everywhere. I have looked at the Distributor Doctor website and they seem to provide a good service and the parts seem to look okay too, at least, how they are described. I'll leave the coil alone and buy a new rota arm, condenser and points from them I ...

Re: Would you choose Lucas parts?

Hi all Thank you so much for your honest replies. No, I didn't have any problems with how the car ran before I swapped the items over but at least I had the sense to keep the old parts, which is how I managed to refit them after several break downs. I have been tempted by electronic ignition and rea...

Would you choose Lucas parts?

Hi everyone I recently purchased a complete Lucas service kit for my 1969 Minor which had leads, distributor cap, rotor arm, condenser, coil etc. Everything I needed to service the car with apart from the oil. Since I fitted everything, I have had nothing but problems with the car breaking down afte...

Colourtune

Hi all. Could someone please tell me if it's the 10mm Colourtune kit I need for my 1098 or another model? The 10mm kit seems like it's for motorcycles although I'd be happy if it was what I needed because it's quite a bit cheaper than the 14mm version.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Throttle/accelerator cable jerky

That sounds good then. I've already bought one.

Thank you Les for your help too. Maybe I was just unlucky with mine but it was only a few quid so I guess you get what you pay for.

Throttle/accelerator cable jerky

Hi all Can anyone recommend a decent throttle/accelerator cable for my 1969 Morris 1000 please? I bought one from ESM and ever since, I have experienced a very jerky pedal action. It’s now almost impossible to perform a squeezing of the throttle as when I press the pedal down, nothing happens and th...

Re: Timing Cover Seal - Which Way?

That's a good point Matt. I did indicate that there was no obvious distortion but it does look like there is some 'not so obvious' distortion. I placed one of those flattish round LED lights over the oil seal hole, placed the cover face down on a dark work surface and looked to see if any light came...

Re: Timing Cover Seal - Which Way?

Thank you Phil and Matt. That's really helpful. My seal presses gently into the recess in the cover and will easily come out. Is this right or should it be a tighter fit? My guess is that it's okay as it wasn't the seal that was leaking when it went in last time - last time my step father, who is a ...

Re: Timing Cover Seal - Which Way?

Thanks Matt. So the inside of the 'C' has a spring in it, so what you're saying is "spring exposed to the driver's side" (where the oil is)?

Timing Cover Seal - Which Way?

Hi all. Sounds like a silly question but when I removed my old oil seal from the timing cover, it was so long ago that I have forgotten which way around it went. I have attached a picture of one in situ and another just above it but the other way round. Does the spring point towards the road ahead o...
