New v Recon steering rack
Hello All I'm a little ahead of myself with this question but here goes. I have a knocking from the front nearside wheel area when driving over small potholes/ripples etc. I have checked all the usual suspects - trackrod end balljoint, kingpin, tiebar, damper mounting, wheel bearings, wheel nuts - e...

Re: Brittany Ferries coronavirus cancellation + MOT 2020
Hello All It was to be our first MoT but not to be. We are pleased that the plan is to hold 2020 in 2021 and have asked that our registration/booking is rolled over. Like others we are waiting for Brittany Ferries to tell us we can't go and will ask for a cash refund. Here's to a better year next ye...

Re: Switching on earth
I wondered about wipers but as has been said there are 2 earths to self park and on moderns there are 2 feeds. I also wondered about position on vehicle and saving wire but surely not worth it. It just seems to me that having the load and the wires feeding it live all the time, even when not in use ...

Switching on earth
This is an issue I've come across before but never managed to satisfactorily answer - maybe you can help. What is the logic behind having a circuit wired battery live, fuse, load, switch, battery earth? Everywhere else I have come across in the world is wired live, fuse, switch, load, earth. Example...

Re: Internal clearance of front wheel bearings
Thanks for the comments. The bearings were as tight a fit in the housing as I would have expected. I think I will buy some standard (normal) internal clearance for one side, fit them and see what improvement it makes.

Internal clearance of front wheel bearings
Hello All I've read a few previous threads on this subject but not found a definitive answer. Apologies if I've missed it, but if so I'd be grateful if someone could point me at it. I wasn't happy with the play in the front wheel bearings of my traveller. Bought 2 sets of bearings from one of the mo...

Re: Battery
Tayna batteries https://www.tayna.co.uk/ have always given me good service at a good price. No connection with the company other than a customer..... They don't list a particular battery for a minor but have a very clear selection process on size, Ah etc

Re: Battery Amps
Hello Edd Can't answer your question directly but hope I can help a bit. Amp Hours (Ah) is a measure of how much electricity the battery can hold. Cold Cranking Current, or Cold Cranking Amps is a measure of how much electricity the battery can supply in a given time. Sorry if this is a bit too simp...

Re: Overheating
I have to say I'm a bit suspicious of the gauge. At 140 C it would be boiling even with 50% ethylene glycol and system pressure. The tables here might be helpful: https://durathermfluids.com/pdf/techpapers/pressure-boiling-point.pdf Is the gauge electrical or hydraulic? ie does it have wires or a pi...

Re: Overheating
You say you added new coolant. What did you use and at what %? I ask only because if I use 50% blucol in my Austin 10 (thermosyphon - no water pump), it runs much hotter than with 30%. This was explained to me as the fact that the antifreeze is not as efficient at losing heat in the radiator as pure...

Re: MOT Exemption
I guess the concern is valid if, after the accident, the vehicle is found to be unroadworthy. Not sure that having, say, an 11 month old MoT would help, as the MoT is only a measure of the car on the date of the test. An unroadworthy vehicle is just that, it's unroadworthy and therefore illegal, but...

Re: Axle drain plug
As MikeNash has said, his oil temperature gets to 80 C if he tries hard. Getting back to Neodymium magnets, I'm sure that mounting some on the filter housing and sump would be a good idea. They are so much stronger than ferrite magnets that a, say, 2mm thick PTFE sheet between the magnet and the met...

Re: Axle drain plug
Would be surprised if the surface temperature of the oil filter or sump ever got to 80c. Unless someone knows different.
