Re: 'George' 1965 2 Door Restoration Log
Finally getting near the end I think! I have rebuilt the rear suspension and replaced some of the old worn brake components. There is very little welding left and the floor needs its last coat of paint followed by painting the underside of the car. Once all of this is done I need to paint the new fi...

Re: 'George' 1965 2 Door Restoration Log
So I've been back at it for a bit now Christmas is over and all of the structural welding is complete! (for now) I've started painting the inside and just finished soundproofing the gearbox tunnel cover : gearbox housing-min.jpg There is a pretty good amount of work left to go still but but once I'v...

Re: Decompression plates
Thank you Phill, that is very insightful! I never though of it that way I've been thinking of forced induction for a while now and I was wondering what would be the best head for a 1098...

Re: Decompression plates
You are correct that is what I meant as obviously this wouldn't change the displacement as all it would be doing is increasing the height from the top of the block to the head - thanks for the correction  On a slightly different note then, would you be able to to use a 12G940 head with a decom...

Decompression plates
Just out of interest could you use a decompression plate with a 12G940 head on a on a 1098cc engine to negate the valve clearance issue? And if so would changing the compression ratio slightly (probably increasing the displacement by around 6cc)negatively effect performance noticeably?

Re: 'George' 1965 2 Door Restoration Log
Yipee! Thank you chaps! :D I thought as much but as a relative novice its always good to confirm, and its just as well really as I wasn't having much luck with my search. In further news the welding is coming on, though I can't say I'm particularly enamoured of upside down welding underneath the car...

Re: Drive train - Weakest link
With all said and done then, if one wanted to replace the rear axle (Theoretically) with another axle assembly (Diff and all), what would be the options? Or perhaps I should say the easiest options?

Re: 'George' 1965 2 Door Restoration Log
I've been looking for a damped crankshaft pulley and today I looked a bit closer at my current one and I realized that I may already have one! :D So I think this is a damped crankshaft pulley but I'm not 100% sure could anyone verify weather it is for me? (Picture in link) https://flic.kr/p/2bWW3Ya

Re: Engine - idling speed problem
Don't forget to check the vacuum advance, I had a split in the rubber connector (to the carb) causing a rough idle before I pulled apart my car (and some of the engine) for the ongoing restoration!

Re: Drive train - Weakest link
I Suspected it would be that half shafts, I just wondered :D And maybe I should have said besides the driver!?! This begs the question though any idea how much power could a standard 1098cc drive train take with uprated shafts or even a different rear axle? Obviously there's a lot to take into...

Drive train - Weakest link
Something that's been on my mind for a while now that I've always wondered - What is the weakest part in the 1098cc drive train from the engine back? Any ideas or opinions welcome!

Re: 'George' 1965 2 Door Restoration Log
So its been a while since I've replied due to being away traveling and busy at work but I've taken out the fuel tank, cut off the old spring hanger and nearly finished welding on the new spring hanger. DSC_3161.jpg I've measured it up many times and test fitted the spring with it tack welded and it ...

Re: 'George' 1965 2 Door Restoration Log
So its been a while since my last post... again! And I've got a fair deal done since then despite things being busy. I've replaced the track rod ends, a bearing puller was invaluable here, I couldn't get the old ones off no matter how hard I tried or what I used (blowtorch, plus gas etc.). DSC_0077....

Re: 'George' 1965 2 Door Restoration Log
So more the engine bay is getting there - I've ripped the patch weld that was underneath the near side engine mount and but welded a new piece in place, cleaned off all of the paint and resprayed the bottom of the engine bay as well as the engine mount towers. I've also replaced the engine mounts wi...

Re: 'George' 1965 2 Door Restoration Log
So its been a while since my last post and I've mostly only got little things done. I have replaced the gearbox rubber mounts now though : IMG_20180526_215328.jpg Couldn't resist painting them whilst they were out so they are gold now, I know they won't be seen but I like it aha :D I'm also working ...

Re: 'George' 1965 2 Door Restoration Log
Right so I changed the crankshaft pulley Bolt for a starter dog boly last night, the trusty impact wrench was able to get the old one out easy and I used the old get someone to press the breaks and then tighten with a torque wrench to get the right torque trick - hopefully it should be all scookum n...
