Re: shoe return springs.

Is the top photo by Les correct? M 15 in the manual shows the same setup as Les has on the rear shoes, with 4 holes on the side of the thick spring and 2 holes the side of the thin spring on the cylinder side. I would have thought it should be 3 holes each side, to make adjustment possible if return...

Re: shoe return springs.

Thanks Les. My setup is like the bottom picture but mine is a 1098. My springs are different and I put them in the tightest holes. I still don't know if that is right.

shoe return springs.

When replacing brake shoe return springs there is a choice of 2 holes on one of the shoes. Which one should you use? I have always used the 'tightest' one; but the other day I removed a rear drum and the thin return spring was lying loose. The hook that fits into the hole is bent and not at right an...

Re: E scooters

I don't understand. Dominic Cummings is the real Prime Minister, (unelected and behind the scenes) . Are you saying that HE is the liberal elite?

Re: E scooters

It sounds as if you made a soap opera about the life of a modern police officer in the UK; it would be so far fetched that nobody would believe it!

Re: E scooters

Theresa May got rid of 20.000 officers. Boris has promised 20.000 new ones. This will take us back up to 2010 numbers, and there were nowhere near enough even then. The last Labour government promised to be 'tough on crime; tough on the causes of crime'; but I can't remember that particularly being ...

Re: E scooters

Very interesting.
Thanks for the insight. It sounds like nasty people are going to get away with doing nasty things for the foreseeable future.
Very depressing. :(

Re: E scooters

Thanks for explaining that Murrayminor. Very interesting.
Surely we can't go on like this; something needs to change!

Re: E scooters

My sympathy is also with the police Murrayminor. However, a few years ago I did a Freedom of Information request and asked how many pavement cyclists had been issued with a fixed penalty notice in the last 12 months in Nottinghamshire. The answer was....none. A couple of years ago I asked the same q...

Re: E scooters

Just to 'nit pick' a bit, I did say 'the go-ahead for HIRE E scooters has been given". I have no problem with E scooters being used right now by anyone, as long as they never go on the pavements and clash with pedestrians. But of course they will be all over the pavements because there is no deterre...

Re: E scooters

You know what I mean Jagnut.

On a serious note, there have already been 2 deaths of E scooter riders in London; and there will certainly now be more.

Re: E scooters

There was a Parliamentary debate about E scooters on July 1st. The go-ahead for hire E scooters was given on July 4th. You can see the debate on the Living Streets charity website. The interesting thing that comes out of the debate is that evidence from other countries shows that the most likely peo...

Re: worst year for minors

My 1968 Austin badged pickup is certainly nothing special bodywork wise. I don't know if it is one with thinner bonnet and door skins, but I do know that the paint does not polish up very well, and does not keep a shine for long. My friend had a late traveller assembled in Birmingham at one time. It...

Re: worst year for minors

Thank you Edward (and Chipper). The best minor I have owned was a 1965 2 door, and seemed better quality than the 3 1968 minors I have owned. Were the Birmingham minors worse quality than the others? Thinner metal or not, I believe the main safety problem with minors is that even in a relatively sma...

Re: worst year for minors

I think it was mentioned in Minor Matters once.

The owners of Henrics used to say that the best metal was used up to 1966, and the cars made after that were not as good.

worst year for minors

Were the worst minors made in 1968?
Didn't they have bonnets and door skins made of thinner metal than usual?

Re: GPO van wheel rims

The steering is a lot heavier with wider wheels fitted.
Is this why thicker steering arms were introduced?
