Re: brake problems
Well i thought i would update you all as i found quite a bit wrong today. I said earlier that there was no play in the pedals, this was correct when i tried moving them. Then i removed the floor panel, the yoke for the brake pedal to M/C was bent, just shy of 90 degrees. When i removed the pin and s...

Re: brake problems
I can strip it and have a look once its out. I fitted this M/C about 10 years ago and all has been fine until now. Something is stopping the fluid returning

Re: brake problems
It does, or shall i say did. It is now solid at 1/2 way down, but the pedal goes down to the floor when a bleed nipple is loosened off. I got them working fine yesterday, took it around the block, got it back on the drive and bang the front drivers side jammed on. I got the adjusters all the way off...

brake problems
I recently fitted a new rear axle, along with this i fitted new copper brake pipes, new drums, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, handbrake cables and flexy hose. Everything has been ok up to last week when i had to do an emergency stop. Some idiot decided to pull ou on me, anyway shortly after i had a n...

Re: standard or 4.5 diff.
O k so an update on this problem. I do have a crack in the axle case around the nearside spring seat due to corrosion, although it is very small at the moment. There is a fair amount of oil on the underside of the body, but none on the floor where its parked and the diff was 1/2 full of oil when i c...

Re: standard or 4.5 diff.
Yes that would be a bit of a pain. I will go with the standard axle. Just got to confirm that it is the diff that's gone, I did look in the dark but it seems to have loads of play. I will get it up on stands in the morning.
Thank you all for your help, i really appreciate it.

Re: standard or 4.5 diff.
Yes the axle casing has cracked by the u bolt for the spring. It dumped the oil on my way home from work, i didn't know as it was ok when i started home, ( no oil visibly on the works car park). Almost home it went with a bang and is now knocking really bad. I have had a quick look underneath and th...

standard or 4.5 diff.
The rear axle in my 1971 traveller has cracked the casing and blown the diff. I have the option of a guaranteed used standard one from a 1969 saloon. ( which i think is a straight swap with the traveller). Or a rebuilt 4,5 axle and diff. Its had a pin welded on for a pan hard rod ( that isn't needed...

My son had an accident in ours. We had to have it inspected by an assessor, but MOT was never raised as an issue

Re: Footman James Insurance
This is normal practice, my daughter works for the AA. If you call them out for an RTA, they will charge you. Even if you have a policy, this is because it isn't a break down. You have to notify your insurance and they will call whatever recovery service they use to recover it for free. RAC is exact...

Re: MOT Exemption
I have decided to MOT every other year, when I taxed it online this year I still had to fill out a declaration form. It then said that the form has to be filled in every time the car is taxed.
