Carburettor running rich
Hello, My car has a 948 with flat top pistons, other than that is totally standard, I have tried different floats and needle valves along with a new jet and needle (M) and the car runs very very rich even with the mixture adjusted all the way in (as lean as possible) and the car barely idles. Can an...

Re: Hats off to the 803!!
It's good that you are enjoying your 803, but I'm guessing that you live in a flatter area than I do, as I can assure you your car wouldn't 'tackle the steepest hills in 3rd without an issue' here!!! It's horses for courses though - I would assert that actually in real-world driving, an 803-engined...

Hats off to the 803!!
After hearing horror stories about the 803 minor I was expecting a dreary car however my newly purchased 1954 minor has its original 803 with an indicated 67k miles on the clock, she runs with 50lbs of oil pressure at hot ideal and 60lbs at 30mph in top gear, she has a 4.55 diff fitted, totally unmo...

Is this filter okay for an 803cc
I know the diameter of the filter opening matters on an 803 to maintain oil pressure however this filter appears to have a smaller hole maybe 1mm-2mm down past the larger hole on the threaded part, I pressume this is okay for use without a restrictor?
Hope to hear back

803 speedometer on 948 diff
How would I go about correcting my speedometer that now only reads 84% as i have an original 803cc engined car with a 4.55 axle from a 948cc engined car?!
Yes i could ignore it as i know what equates to 30 and 40mph butits very bloody annoying.

803cc advice needed!!
Hello! Just purchased a 54' minor with its original sewing machine... I mean engine. Anyway after hearing things regarding this engine I have two questions, first of all is the oil filter issue, is there a possible way to change the engine to have a full filtration system rather than the existing by...

Gearbox whining
Just reintroduced a car to the road for the first time in decades, and the gearbox changes gear absolutely spot on, no crunching, selects well, doesn't jump out but WHINES, at any speed in every gear equally, except 4th which is much quieter but still some whine, is there any additive that would sto...

Diode on dynamo output wire
I was told it was possible to fit a dynamo on the output wire with a diode as to stop and voltage flowing back into it and potentially damaging it, this seems more important with the quality of modern voltage regulators, I was wondering how and what type of diode to fit?
Thanks !
Thanks !

Weak spark possible short?
The old girl had been sitting about a month and had a slight misfire before sitting, now the misfire is AWFUL at idle, yet sometimes clears up and the engine revs absolutely fine. So I replaced the points and now she won't start, I've tried several condensers plus one known good one. Lt wires have b...

Alternator conversion not working
Had some charging issues so decided to buy a dynamator. I've used the regulator as a junction box and followed the advice of "wire A1, A, D together, then connect F and E together and replace all connections in the same place" I've got no charge at the battery now, I must add that I haven'...

Re: Clattering noise
Definitely clattering, it sounds like a tobacco tin full of bolts is on top of one of the pistonsMurrayminor wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 7:21 pm Is it clattering or pinking?
Pinking usually occurs under load.

Re: Clattering noise
Are you sure the noise is definitely coming from the engine? Have you tried revving it from the carb inside the engine bay to try and pinpoint the noise? It makes the noise when I rev the engine in neutral but not as much, I've tried doing it from the carb to no avail, it's only at higher revvs or ...

Re: Clattering noise
I'm wondering if water got inside the exhaust pipe? Maybe causing back-pressure.......could the head gasket have gone between two cylinders? That can sound like a clattering noise on acceleration..... Just took the head this afternoon, gasket is absolutely fine, put on a new one from the gasket set...

Re: Clattering noise
It's a 51, I had to ask to use my nephew's account to post as I currently don't have an account on here. And the water was maybe 7 inches deep, I was in second as moving as slow as I could, I have always been worried when going through water so always crawl through. It sounds like a bag of bolts whe...

Clattering noise
Driving my 1951 Morris sidevalve today I went through a bit of water, deep but crawled through it and as soon as I sped up after I had passed through it my engine makes a metallic chattering noise on acceleration or load and a popping from the engine on over run, but still idles quietly as ever exce...

Re: Carburetor adjustment doing nothing
I did replace the fuel lines, the fuel pump has been completely rebuilt and carburetor gaskets been replaced, I had checked the valve less than a week ago when the carb was off the car and it seemed to worked absolutely perfectly. And I did drive the old girl for an hour long journey on Saturday, to...

Carburetor adjustment doing nothing
I'm 17 and recently purchased a 1956 car still sporting it's original paint, I have spent the last few weeks getting the old girl back up to running order after sitting since the mid eighties. However she's running rich! Adjusting the carburetor seems to do nothing and in traffic she either stalls a...
