Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
I hope everyone is ok about me posting my experiences on here ? Of course it's okay. It take me back to when we first got our Traveller and the fun and games we had. The first time we took it out we got stranded coming home because we hadn't mastered the hot/cold choke in/out and ended up flooding ...

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
Ahh thx very much , I’ll try not to waffle on to much though
Considering I’ve never used a manual choke before I don’t think I’m doing to bad , let’s hope she starts ok after work now I’ve said this but I’ll post how I get on since you don’t mind

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
Yeah , I found out about the synchromesh for 1st gear when I was going to slow for 1st gear and it crunched 😂, Once you get a bit more praticed at driving the car you might want to have a go at double de-clutching for a change down to first whilst moving. Rather unnerving (and probably still a bit ...

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
Well done! It seems 3/4 choke works well for your car then. Maybe less in summer. And the drive to and from work will charge the battery again. As you drive her more and more you will become more aquainted with the 'personality' of the car and how she responds to things like starting, braking, gear...

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
SUCCESS 😜 I’ve gone into work early and took my dads moggy Decided a different approach of trying without choke then introducing it bit by bit , 1st try without and nothing so 1/4 choke and nothing, 1/2 choke and she spluttered, tried again and she spluttered again so went for 3/4 and she started , ...

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
Flooded ..... that fast , she could have only have been running 10 seconds before I switched her off and about 10 minutes before I tried starting her again, I just assumed she’d just start right up , in future I might be better off trying every start without choke and gradually introduce it 1/4 chok...

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
Hello folks I’m so sorry to bother you again but as I said my best friend was coming round today to have a look at my late dads Morris, she didn’t get here till about 4pm , I opened the garage and cos it’s a bit tight she had to climb in my side and scoot across, I turned the ignition on and gave he...

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
Morning everyone
My moggy is garaged where I live but can anybody tell me what she’ll be like at starting if left outside overnight or all day in the rain or even snow ?

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
The clothes peg 'technology' is frequently seen in a Minor but the choke knob *should* stay out on its own. However, this doesn't always work, especially if the choke cable has been fitted to the carb without twisting the cable about half a turn clockwise, which is how it is supposed to allow for d...

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
Thx simmitc I came across that a short while ago when I left my friends house , she’d stood about 2 hours and when I came to leave i thought about the choke then thought no she won’t need it, turned the key and she started 1st try but spluttered and stalled, she started again next try but coughed an...

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
I’m beginning to understand now , so if I go to Asda shopping and I’m only an hour , maybe an hour and a half she won’t need the choke but standing from 8.30 am Monday morning till 5.00 pm I’ll more than likely need to use a bit if she won’t start without it
Thx for all this help btw

Re: Starting Dad's old Minor
Thx Ian and Keith I’ve been back out , full choke and she started 2nd try again but this time I kept the choke out fully and you were right she does run fast and after about 20 seconds she started to run a bit roughly and another 10 seconds later the sound changed to a sort of chugging sound and the...

Re: Starting my moggy
Knob with a c, that’s it. You don’t need the pedal to start it, that takes over when you drive away. Thx ianmack I’ve just been out to start her (using choke this time) , she spluttered the 1st try then started on the 2nd so I pushed the choke into half way and she conked out , I tried 3 times to r...

Re: Starting my moggy
Hello and welcome. Have you found the choke control? If you’re trying to start it like a modern you need to use this. It provides a little extra petrol for cold starts. On a 1970 it’s the right hand knob beneath the speedo. Pull it out and when the engine starts push it halfway back in, then the re...

Starting Dad's old Minor
Hi everybody I’ve recently inherited my late dads 1970 Morris Minor, by the time I was ready to face up to going to the garage it had stood about 2 weeks , after getting in it I tried about 6 times to start it but no luck , left it and tried again the next day, same outcome , it’s turning over fine ...
