Re: Merry Christmas
Best wishes to everybody for the Christmas period and for a Happy New Year too :) . You shouldn't worry about cars being kept outside. My Minor lives outside the whole time and never seems to suffer from it. Very little rust, ready for action at any time and always starts without any trouble ...

Re: Car not starting
Hello Alice, Oh dear, that is too far for me to pop over to take a look with my 1960s/70's diagnostic tools (I'm in Farnborough, Hampshire). I also think that travel to that area is being restricted - haven't been there since about 1975. Have you taken out the plugs and checked the gaps (0.025"...

Re: Car not starting
I think being able to use a starting handle is a no brainer. If you are always lucky and there is a friend nearby to let you use your jump leads that's fantastic. But when you are in a hurry or when there is nobody around why wouldn't you want to get away in two minutes?? Hi You not talking to me ?...

Re: Car not starting
Hi guys Great news, I’ve got Lucy back , she sounds totally different to the last time I drove her , the garage owner purposely left her outside in the rain and cold for me to try today, I got in , gave her half choke , waited for the pump to stop then turned the key , she spluttered but failed to s...

Re: Car not starting
Hi Alice, Have you learned to use the handle for when the battery is tired or the engine is cold? Hi there I know Lucy has a starting handle, I remember seeing dad use it but I don’t think it’s for me 😂 , I have some jump leads incase , not to sound to cocky but is the choke not for when the engine...

Re: Car not starting
Alice, Do you have any means of checking the revs - should be about 900-1000 at tick-over, otherwise known as Idle Speed (this would be a special meter)? It could be that the 2 adjustment screws, on the side of the carburettor, need adjusting. One does the throttle stop (for Idle Speed) and the oth...

Re: Car not starting
Alice, there’s something needs sorting. It’s probably not a serious issue, but you must get someone with experience to check it over. The whole point of driving these cars is to enjoy a,relatively, stress free retro experience. And a well sorted Minor is a delight to drive. There’s really not much ...

Re: Car not starting
Hello Alice, How old is the petrol in the tank? Two of mine (I try to start them every so often) needed to have the choke out a bit longer than usual (just a couple of clicks) as the petrol in those tanks has been there a few months. George. Hiya The petrol is fresh , she is my daily driver and onl...

Re: Car not starting
Now you tell us 8) Well done for persevering and all done without Easy Start (my 1950 Series MM started without this chemical about 3 days ago, but the Traveller was cranking over for too long yesterday, so had to have a squirt). All the best, George. Hi there George I have managed to source a tin ...

Re: Car not starting
I take my hat off to you for using a Minor this time of year especially when you ve had a modern car ! There is a knack to understanding old cars as I ve found recently with another make . And I 'm just old enough to have had a Minor van direct from its first owner when it was only 10 years old . I...

Re: Car not starting
Alice - you’re getting some good advice, but it’s all getting rather confusing. I know you say you had all ignition components replaced, but that doesn’t mean they are good as unfortunately there are a lot of poor quality components out there. As good ones are cheap to buy, and you aren’t in a posi...
