Carb setup might be a possibility, though once it's started and chugged for ten seconds or so it runs quite nicely.

It turns over absolutely fine, but doesn't fire. A hoosh of WD40 into the dizzy helps but it's still reluctant to fire, and the missus can't fiddle around under the bonnet when she has loaded the boys into the car. It always fires right on the button when the weather is warmer, so I assumed the prob...

Prewarming the engine?

Hi folks, long time no posting here. Our Traveller has always been a bit reluctant to start on cold or damp mornings, and now I'm away most of the time with the modern the missus needs her car to start. We replaced the battery with a much bigger one, as the old one was struggling when it got cold. I...

Hello chaps, I thought I'd stick my head around the door and say hello, just to prove that I haven't vanished off the face of the earth... Course is going well - just started on my first teaching placement. I'm teaching A-level physics at Derby College and it's huge fun. I saw mention of a christmas...

Where to tonight then? Or is it the Friday week? I reckon, since it looks to be a sunny day tomorrow, that we should go somewhere nice that we can sit outside. My suggestion would the Royal Oak (Fritham), because a) it's a stunning pub, and b) I don't want to drive very far having just lost my job....

Who's coming tonight? If it's only a few, can I suggest we divert round the corner from the Empress to the Compass? The beer is better and cheaper - an all-round better pub, in fact. Only problem is parking when there's a crowd of us.

Examination of the back doors would show whether they had small or large windows which would date it before or after '62. Maybe the last bit is being a little picky. This photo shows the rear with some windows that look small to me. It also clearly shows amber indicators, which Alex noted. I'd pref...

If I can justify one of these green ones for a setting in 1957, I'm happy.

Clearly a Minor Van jim - you should trust your judgement! Heh :-) Thanks. Models of Minors are usually rubbish*, so I wondered if LCV-heads thought this one was any better... it looks rather to me like a 1000 van so late 50s to early 70s I thought that, but then I also thought that Post Office van...

What date is this van?

Oxford Diecast have released a 1:148 scale van as part of a new range for British N-gauge model railways. I don't know vans, so I'd like the opinions of the masses on whether it looks much like a Minor van and in what period such vans were about on the roads. Here it is: Click Bear in mind it's less...

I should make it this evening. After this I won't be around for a month - Sheffield, Cambridge and Manchester for work (oh, the excitement) and then Devon for a holiday.

See you later...

Oh well, never mind. I have a complete exhaust but it's a jigsaw puzzle where the pieces don't fit together without the aid of a grinder :-)

Aaargh, aaargh. I'm interested in the manifold but I'm pretty skint at the moment. Do you do interest-free credit? :-)

Oh, and I can't make it tonight. SWMBO has the excitement of a pre-school committee meeting so I get to stay at home.

Are we meeting this evening then? Well, new series of Hustle on Beeb1 and ER on More4 mean I'll have nobody to talk to at home between 9pm and 11pm, so I might as well come and talk to you lot :-) No strong preference as to where. The shed is running well but has a fair old thirst so I don't really...

Since I last saw you I've been in Geneva, Edinburgh, Oslo (and Bournemouth), and although I'm at home now I won't be out tonight as I'm completely and utterly skint. The Focus is due four new tyres and a tax disc, w...

oh and how important is the turbo dizzy from a turbo metro??? Pretty vital, if you don't want fuel spraying everywhere. are they that much different? Not fundamentally different; The turbo carb has seals to cope with the pressure of the turbo blowing through it. I think there are other differences ...

Sounds good to me. It's my last thursday for at least three weeks, maybe four.

Does anybody have a standard metal fan lying around? Could use one for the Trav. Which, incidentally, is running a lot better. Not perfect, but much better.
