Thanks again Phil.
Should I supply the pistons myself or is there an advantage in the engineering firm supplying them?
(£140 from ESM etc.)

1098cc maximum overbore?
I've aquired a 10ma 1098cc engine and when I stripped it down I noticed the pistons were 30 thou oversized which I can't understand as the Haynes manual says only 20 max is possible ?
Is there a reasonable explanation for this size overbore and is it reliable?

piston ID help +0.508
Could someone help me by confirming that the pistons I currently have fitted are +20thou? It doesn't have +20 stamped on them as I would expect but instead it reads "AE 20397 +0.508 AUF" I'm pretty sure this means +20 but would like confirmation from more knowledgeable folk that I'm not ju...

petrol tank feed pipe nipple
Can anyone confirm that the nipple has to be soldered onto the outlet pipe? I've found quite a few general threads but nothing specific to the nipple fastening. I've also seen mention of the pipe having a "swaged " single flare end, is this an alternative method? Is it a simple diy solderi...

Re: series2 1955 rear door armrest
Thanks. Hardest part was fitting of the fabric to be honest. The woodwork was straightforward thanks to the measurements supplied by myoldjalopy, and also the ones for the brackets. What I would like to add would be some 66yr old patina, not quite sure how to go about that. After using vinyl colour ...

Re: series2 1955 rear door armrest
Thanks again for the excellent help folks. Pete you require a star! As you say they look to be rather crudely made but actually that simplicity will help me to make halfway decent copies hopefully! Chances are that a few cars in late spring were randomly fitted with them as they used up the remainin...

Re: series2 1955 rear door armrest
Martin are yours solid shaped wooden lumps with glued fabric and a set screw fixed in them or something more exotic?
They look hard to replicate being curved in all directions.....3D printing anybody?

Re: series2 1955 rear door armrest
It definitely states that the FRONT DOORS had pull straps and the REAR DOORS had the "combined" PULL & ARMREST. So the question remains....was the later armrest secured to the door card (easy to fit but weak) or the door internal frame (hard to fit but strong)? I've checked the worksho...

Re: series2 1955 rear door armrest
Yes I did wonder how they were fastened....and then I found this information in The Official Workshop Manual (AKD 743) which has left me thinking how they did the later (bolt) style ones? Pete, could I be a real "pain in the b#m" and ask you to measure the marked up dimensions please as I'...

Brilliant Pete!
Thank you for taking the trouble it's very much appreciated.

Re: series2 1955 rear door armrest
Thanks for the replies so far. OK what have I learnt.... My car (a 1955 series 2 4 door Deluxe model) left the factory with rear armrests. They were mounted by means of bolts/setscrews from "inside" the door frame (presumably permanently fixed in some way to the door inner frame to aid ass...

series2 1955 rear door armrest
Hi all, my recently aquired minor is apparently missing the rear door arm rests. Çan anyone help me identify what should be there as i believe not all minors had them and some where different? Ideally i'd like to buy some but i'm prepared to have a go and make some if I can get hold of one or photos...
