Re: Un-identified body pieces
Thank you both for your help. Looking at it now I should have given some idea of size/dimensions! It is the piece that screws to the RH boot board. When I came to fit the boards I would then perhaps have wondered what attached to the holes, but now I know. Presumably it stops the spare wheel sliding...

Un-identified body pieces
Hi, Help please. Can anyone identify the metal piece in the attached photo that I removed from my 1969 two door saloon some twenty years ago? I am fairly certain it came off the car, but I have no idea of its function or where it should be installed? I thought in the boot, but the spacing of the two...

Re: Horn mounting location
Thanks both. Berni's link to the old post shows the horn on the inner right hand wing, just in front of the washer bottle. My inner wing has two holes there that match the fixings on the horn bracket. I also have the purple/purple & black wires from the loom in that position. Yes the car has a h...

Horn mounting location
Hi, Please can someone advise where the horn on my 1969 saloon should be mounted. There is a post on here from 2010 with some lovely photos of two horns, each mounted on a bracket on the front panel either side of the radiator. My car doesn't have those brackets. On the LH side there are two holes i...

Re: Sump gasket problems
Thanks. I had followed the manual instructions regarding the size of projecting ends after cutting to length etc., with the exception of soaking the cork seals, but it was not the projecting cork ends holding the sump off the block and worrying me. It was the semi circle of cork in the groove at eac...

Sump gasket problems
Hi, Today's next difficulty. The cork gaskets for the sump in my bottom end set are 6mm x 10-11mm section and straight (not curved, unlike those shown on the Moss website). They are also too long, but that was easily rectified. The 6mm fits into the groove of the sump fine. However, on attempting to...

Re: Distributor drive fitting
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Very clear. I forgot to say the cam followers are also out, but easily rectified. Thanks for the advice on using the bolt rather than fiddling around from below. Off to the garage now to install.

Distributor drive fitting
Hi, There are a few posts regarding refitting of the distributor drive, including one that refers to the apparent discrepancy between the workshop manual (AA.28) and the Haynes manual as to whether piston Nr 1 or Nr 4 needs to be on its compression stroke. My engine is a 1098. The head is off so I c...

Re: Rear bumper mounting stud thread
Thanks for confirming the size and stopping me heading off in the wrong direction. I have tried the new 1/2 BSF nuts supplied by Moss on the front bumper irons and whilst again they lock up after a couple of turns, with the spanner they go past this point and then run up and down the thread okay, bu...

Rear bumper mounting stud thread
Hi, Can someone help with the nut size for the threaded end of the rear bumper mounting studs please? The existing nuts take a 7/16 W 1/2 BS ring spanner. New 7/16 BSF nuts from Moss (as per their parts catalogue) were too small and the replacement 1/2 BSF nuts from them will take two complete turns...

Front rebound buffers
Hi, My query is one of rebuild timing for replacing the front rebound buffers (lower bump stops). The engine is currently out of the car. The arm of the shock absorber needs to be raised in order to remove the buffer from the inner wing (the bolts are already removed). My attempts to raise the suspe...

Re: Heater casing refurbishment
Thank you. It was the circular one that I was particularly uncertain of, but you have confirmed it is the motor seal and presumably closes the space between the rotating fan and the white plastic inlet pipe/tube.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: Heater casing refurbishment
IMG_1191.JPG IMG_1190.JPG Thanks for your comments. I may (or may not) have attached a couple of photos. The larger pieces are those that fell out of the heater on dismantling - they are hard but presumably once upon a time were a foam or rubber. I have all the foam strips that encompass the heater...

Heater casing refurbishment
Hi, I am fairly new to the forum, so I think I am making a few mistakes. I posted some further queries (below) on the heater refurbishment on a thread that is four years old and have not received any comments or help after almost a week, so perhaps this is wrong of me to attempt this on an old threa...

Re: Heater refurbishment
Hi all, Hopefully I can join this discussion after all this time has elapsed. Managed to find the thread after a search and it answers some of my queries that I had following a strip down of my heater and casing (1969 Morris) - those on fan direction being the same regardless of which way it is conn...

Thanks Don. That sounds like good advice re the lubrication. i had assumed that as it was all working okay when taken off the road, that everything would still be fine.

Re: Speedometer glass sealant
Thanks for all your swift responses. The description from the MG instrument page describing the sealant melting and oozing out onto the glass and bezel is exactly what has happened with mine, to the extent that i thought the bezel was severely corroded. Upon dismantling and closer inspection the cru...
