Help

Just bought a 69 convertible. Fuel pump wasn’t working but I have cleaned the points & breathed some life back into it. Clicks away nicely. Carb is getting fuel & idles nicely too but once I got to drive the engine dies. Took the carb off & cleaned it out with cleaner & the air line ...

Disc brake conversion

Hi, just wanted to ask people who have done a disc conversion which one they went for? I’ve been looking on ESM & they have a few different types varying in price.

Classic minor exhaust ‘fart’

I have a 948cc & the exhaust seems to be really quiet compared to my sisters 1098 traveller. I’m looking to get that classic Morris minor fart on decel, my car is running only one silencer in the middle of the car. Would changing the exhaust for a new sport system give me the sound I’m looking? ...

Steering wheels

What’s the standard size steering wheel on a minor? I’m looking to fit a slightly small one. Like a wooden one with the holes in from an mgb or something similar. I don’t want to go too small though that the steering is heavy.

Re: Water in passenger footwell

The card in the passenger glove box was wet, so it could possibly be the washer jet? The carpet is REALLY wet though so I’m unsure as to how so much water could get in there. I’ll just have to go over everything. If I needed a new windscreen seal would I need to get a windscreen specialist to to it?

Edit, I'm being stupid. I thought you were talking about carb damper oil

I put SAE40 in the dampers.
😄 No worries! How do you find the ride with SAE40? Is it quite stiff?

Water in passenger footwell

After a few days of heavy rain (typical when I don’t have the car in the garage) I’ve noticed the passenger footwell very wet. The windscreen seal looks to be in very good condition. Can water get in via the seals on wiper blades? As they look abit tatty. Any other points I should check greatly appr...

Damper oil

Any recommendations on which damper oil to use?

I’ve herd about using SAE 40 which I think would be too thick. I’ve also herd 30 weight motorcycle fork oil is good.

Thoughts? Experience anyone?

Lowering front suspension

So my Morris has been sitting rather high from I purchased it. Which looks to be higher than ‘standard’ height. So I decided to take into it & lower it by adjusting 1 spline on the torsion bar which I thought gave 1 1/2 inches of adjustment either way. Put it all back together & the car is n...

No I don’t use it for commuting to work. It would only be for leisure & general trips to shops or weekend journeys etc.

Daily driver

Thinking of making my minor a daily driver. I have a modern car I’m going to sell as I don’t do a lot of mileage & it’s wasted money sitting there. Atleast the minor is tax & mot exempt & cheap insurance. However I am hesitant to make it my sole vehicle for transport. Does anyone else us...

Re: Gearbox question

Yes hopefully it works out for you! Atleast if you go with a refurb there’s bound to be some sort of guarantee on it. & I also wondered if a new refurb has a 1st gear synchro which would be good. I’m contemplating changing my gearbox also, mine works fine, but I think the earlier cars had differ...

Re: Gearbox question

If it were me I would buy a brand new (fully refurbished) gearbox from MCCS engineering. I think they are £600 or so. I don’t know what you’re paying for second hand gearboxes but cheap usually ends up expensive in the long run.

Re: Number plates

I could try to straighten it but there’ll always be a few creases in it, I think it takes away from what is a pretty straight & good looking car. It sort of stands out a mile, hence why I want to change it. Or maybe I just have OCD lol!!

Number plates

What are the correct plates for a 1958 Minor? Were there any variations at the time?

The plates I have are pressed with black background silver letters. I quite like the look of white letters & numbers. My front plate is bent so I’m going to purchase a new one.

Re: Gearbox oil

I ended up going with 20w50 classic from Halfords. Usually £32 for 5 litres but I had a £10 voucher signing up to Halfords motor club so I got it for £22 which is pretty good value. Yes the MT90 would be a superior oil but I plan on changing mine regularly anyway.

Re: Silver vs Cream Wheels

My 1958 saloon had colour coded wheels when I bought it, didn’t. Like the look so I painted them with cream Hammerite. Transformed the look of the car I love it.

I think yours looks fantastic!

Water in boot

Anyone have water gathering in the boot when it rains? I was thinking of drilling a few small drainage holes. I usually keep the car garaged during the winter months, but as of late there’s been a few heavy showers when I have the car out. It also doesn’t help matters that I’ve a few small holes alo...
