Re: Metal trim help
Gosh no apologies needed!!!! It’s all good learning. I’ve sent some pictures for some quotes for playing around the midlands and contacted DMG for a quote on new. Some comments I’ve had on another forum are suggesting the price of plating has recently sky rocketed due to the price of materials and c...

Re: Metal trim help
I’ll definitely give it a go on another part Jimmy. I got over excited with this one and couldn’t help myself. Various grades of sandpaper, wet and dry and polish and I’ve got a very nice mirror finish - but…… it’s got a yellow hint to it!! It does seem to be slightly less yellow once it’s polished ...

Re: Metal trim help
I’ve added a few more pictures if it helps confirm the material. I’ve given it a good clean this morning and had a quick go with some 600 grit wet and dry. Appreciate everyone’s help..

Re: Metal trim help
Thank you all for your responses..
Thanks Don… I’ll give it a go with some fine sandpaper and have a go at polishing it back up.

Re: Metal trim help
I took it close to negate the question of ‘take a close up for us so we can see what the issue is’. Its more the state of the metal I was hoping to get some advice on rather than what the actual part is. Thanks though, I thought it would be chrome plated. Best start looking for a plating company.. T...

Metal trim help
Hi there I was hoping to save some pennies and polish up the surrounds on Myrtles front grill. I don't really know much about metal polishing. Could someone tell me if this is likely to be polished aluminium (or similar) or chrome plated. I'm guessing if it's chrome plated the only way to get it bac...

Clearing the block
Hello all I’ve just taken my cylinder head unit off to send away for refurbishment. Exposing the top of the block I’ve discovered what I think are some mucked up ports which I think may be a further symptom to the water problem I’ve had - in that… no water drained from the block drain tap, and it wa...

Thank you all!! I’ve gone for the toothbrush option and given it a bit of a clean through. I think an air compressor is going to be popped on the Christmas list for jobs like this…
Thankyou as always!!

Thank you both..
I feel as it’s off and I’m painting the yoke I should try and give it a bit of a clean.. the coils just seem so fragile I was a bit cautious about what to use. Last thing I wanted to do was break a wire…

Cleaning Dynamo
Hi all I’ve been following the service manual to clean the dynamo whilst it’s off my Minor. I’ve cleaned the Armature and Commutator poles with contact cleaner and very fine wet and dry and it’s looking really nice. There’s quite a lot of spot amongst the connection cables but, I don’t know if the r...

Re: Heater return pipe
Maybe it didn’t have one originally and this is the how the pipe was always ran. I just had seen a neater looking heater return and thought I’d look into it. Your photo shows that someone has bodged their own hybrid version. There were 2 subsequent versions of the heater pipe routing, I've no idea ...

Re: Heater return pipe
Hi Alfie
Yes, that’s exactly my train of thought. To run the pipe neatly instead of it just cross crossing across the bay.
Yours looks really good.

Heater return pipe
Hi there I’m looking to replace the heater return pipe on my 1958 Minor. When I say replace, at the moment it doesn’t have one… it just has a rubber hose running across the engine bay.. it fully serves its purpose, but I’d like the engine bay to look tidier. I’ve seen a variety of pipes available wi...

Horrible weld help
Hi there I’m currently in the process of painting my kick panels. Having stripped the paint off them, knocked out most of the dents I sprayed a coat of etch primer on and realised I’d overlooked the welded seams that - well, look horrible. They are sound, and hold together well, so it’s just the loo...
