Hi Cam! you are quick! I found that copper wires and the way they were fitted using little, pointed screws always were susceptible to "leaks" and shorts. Looking under the bonnet at night revealed a lot of blue arcing. In winter when damp (car was parked outside) many mornings were WD40 da...

I had problems with the fuel pump too. I bought new points (not cheap) and fitted them . Still problems despite cleaning and setting several times. Obviously my mechnical skills were not up to pump reconditioning. So I fitted an electronic pump (cost about 50 quid then). Since then no pump problems ...

My 64 Minor heater was useless at first - very little heat and very little air throughput. Using the electric fan made almost no improvement. Then, when at a scrapyard, I noticed that the air trunking (from the grille) on the scrapped Minor lacked the shredded appearance of mine. No holes, and not &...

"If the pump and its connections seem OK dont forget to check the pipe to the carb as these can develop splits at the ends with age." Yes, they certainly can! Just changed a head gasket (had to buy a head kit last time - no choice! gasket couldn't be seen and was a white "metal" ...

I was a member but lapsed some years ago. Still have the Minor (and use it) but probably won't rejoin the club. Never was very active as a member of any club - not anti-social but rather too busy! This a such an entertaining and useful web site that I would regret it being limited to club members......

Sleeve would have been microns thick unless hole was drilled etc! Anyway, this wasn't really an option - the car was needed!

ok, takes deep breath and orders flak jacket in preparation for expected incoming! I have fitted valve guides with a brass drift only, establishing depth by eye against a marked piece of dowel. Care and gentleness is needed, with perhaps a bit of courageous force to finish with!. It didn't take long...

Been away so haven't picked up the thread. Will get a chance this week (I hope) to have a look at the play/adjustment. Will update when I have. Need to check her over anyway and grease the steering (on the way to Oxford from Portsmouth she started misfiring at Newbury - points I put in 3 weeks ago h...

I don't know whether clutch was completely replaced - certainly release bearing and part with all the "ferodo" in it! Was done by a garage as I have no lift or pit and was a bit wary of fighting a gearbox with the car on stands! Only cost about £75 pounds for the labour so seemed ok to me....

I have always had the reverse of this problem - the clutch is very fierce; I mean that when letting the clutch out most of the pedal upwards travel has no effect, the clutch starts to bite nearly at the top of the travel and is fully engaged after about an inch or so. There is adequate free play at ...

Looks like just 'cause the part looks the same and fits it will be right!

I can second the recommendation for Steve Foreman. I don't have a Traveller but have seen the quality of the timber both on and off and it looks excellent. If you are going to pretreat timber then good practice is to leave the ends of timber soaking in the preservative for a while - ypu will be amaz...

The stonechip went on very evenly - but the hot zinc painting was a bit "prickly". Perfectly ok for low down and undervbody but not really show car standard. I suspect it could have been "flatted down but I was more concerned with protection thatn looks. Even finishing with cellulose ...

For longevity I recommend sandblasting, hot zinc painting followed by stonechip, undercoat and topcoat. I had my front panel and grille done. It was very durable and resisted chips as well. It is still not rusty at all after 4/5 years. However, my wipers jammed off in a flash rainstorm and I ran int...

I will check for creamy deposits/blocked breather and update if I get any! The sleeve is about 5/8" long and probably slightly over 1/8", at the air cleaner end. I haven't had any problems with creamy deposits before, I change the oil/filter every year on about 2500-6000 miles. I thought i...

OK. Picked up daughter from Gatwick last night, probably round trip of 150 miles. Checked this morning and no oil dripping from air cleaner. So I think that sleeving the rocker cover to air filter pipe down to 1/8" has fixed the problem. Will fit solid oil filler cap when I next go to motor fac...

Ray : It is a normal rocker cover. No big vent of gas when opened during running - although will check again! Oil in air filter

The air filter has always tended to become very oily (drips out the bottom) when the breather hose from the rocker cover is connected to the air filter casing. A few years ago I fitted new rings/big ends and a replaced a couple of sloppy valve guides and expected oiliness this to stop. I was disappo...
