Re: How many of you can weld, and how did you learn?

Self taught to use an arc welder back in the 1970s and 80s - well sort of. Rusty Minis, Minors and Escorts gave me plenty of practice back in the day. My welding is not exactly pretty, but they are strong and MOT passable. Arc welders are not expensive and do not take up to much space, which can oft...

Re: When grinding, wear eye protection

Thanks guys - I heal quickly (which is just as well). Great sign! I should get a sticker of that to put on my grinder. I found getting the new bolts reasonably easy to get back in place. I used a small crowbar to move torsion bar a bit and got them in ok. Bleeding is a pain but pedal getting better ...

Re: When grinding, wear eye protection

Well there it is - We have all this great advice on looking after yourselve when welding, grinding, cutting. What did I do yesterday?? Yep, you've got it in one - I was merrily cutting through the master cylinder bolts on the moggy (which has neen put on the wrong way round by a previous owner and w...

Re: caravans

As someone who had a blowout on a caravan, I can vouch for the need to remain within the weights recommended by the Caravan Club. I was driving a Rover 200 series (Diesel) and my caravan was a 4 berth and well within weight limits. 60mph on nearside lane. Offside tyre of van blew and pulled car almo...

Re: Safety in mind

Hi there everyone - Happy New Year to you all. Have been checking and there is slight weeping from master cylinder and one of the rear wheel cylinders (thank everyone for the advice about soft brakes etc). Have decided to replace both rear and master, as well as all of the flexi pipes. The metal pip...

Re: Door Mirrors

Hi there ladies and gentlemen, Hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas and all the very best to you all for 2024. I have a two door saloon and my beloved and I have a difference in height (no she does not tower over me!! lol). I was fine with the wing mirrors fitted to Monty when I bought him,...

Re: Minor Gender Confusion

My Moggy is a female who is presenting as male (comfortable with things lol), in these enlightened times (Had name "Monty" when I bought him, er, her, so stuck with it). However, her curves are just to die for and she is truly gorgeous, she can be a diva at times and dare I say it has been...

I am commenting here just to bring this thread back into the fore, as it is important that the people who assist, are being recognised (manners cost nothing). I have asked some questions, been given good advise and would never consider not thanking whoever helped - If I have inadvertently missed any...

Re: Safety in mind

Thank you on the heads-up on my use of MM as an abreviation of Morris Minor - It was definitely an oversight on my part (who said my brain was unplugged AGAIN! lol). The brakes strangely enough, were down to the vacuum pipe not being tightened properly. I tightened it and hey presto, they worked pro...

Re: One Word

Thought it might be fun to see what newer Moggie Enthisiats think of their cars in a single word. I can think of a few for Monty:-
Fun
Retro
Simple
British
Iconic
Have fun folks.

Re: Daily use classics, very rare now.

Although technically Monty is the second car in my family (The Boss has an Evoque), he is on the road 4 days a week on average. I wanted a classic that I could drive, not just one to sit and admire, or wait on the price going up (I could have made a 50% profit if I had wanted to thanks to an offer t...

Re: BMC Main Agents

A&D Fraser - Now there is a blast from the past. I remember, when I was a youngster in my early teens, they had a garage in Portland Street in Kilmarnock (approx 21 miles south of Glasgow). Old fashioned style of garage, which like most of the old garages of the area are now long gone and sadly ...

Re: Bag or bottle??

Just recently fitted a bag with electric pump combined kit, which had switch and wiring (£13.98 on e-bay). Easy to fit (I managed so must be easy) and worked first time. Fitted to big space on bulkhead and looks like it has always been there. Not a lot of pence for great performance and the Tudor bo...

Re: esm

Have used ESM on several occasions now, as I move ahead bringing "Monty" up to a standard that I am happy with (Will never bea show car but I do want him to be safe and reliable). Their deliveries could not be any faster and any time I have needed advise they have been absolutely brilliant...

Safety in mind

Loving to read the discussions here on the forum and have been working my way through the various topics. I have learned so much about our great little cars. Our MM Monty has been very good over the months we have had him now. I am getting around to one or two jobs with the interests of safety in mi...

Re: 'Smart' motorways

A while back, I voted in favour of "Smart Motorways" - I WAS TOTALLY WRONG and apologise!! I have gained a bit more experience on said motorways and while the basic ideas and indeed some parts may be good, such as the forward warnings, the removal of the nearside place of safety in an emer...

New member - My first Minor in over 40 years

Thank you everyone for allowing me to join. I am Sandy (The Scotmoose). Last month I finally sacked my 2009 Mercedes C Class Estate (lovely car) and went back to "real driving" - Good news is my daughter now has it and I am on her insurance. I have bought a 1968 2 door saloon, which needs ...

Re: Where have all the classics gone!

The scrappage scheme has a lot to answer for - Back in the day a lot of people took advantage of a £500 car being worth £2000 when trading it in against a new computer on wheels and I can fully understand that, but a whole lot of cars were instantly gone. There should have been a plethora of parts f...
