90 Degrease rotated. Probably better. Especially for feet and legs.
I can see the label where it reads Wellington ((-:

Thanks all, I did put some graphite powder on the pinion and barrel. The starter motor is in the car now and works fine. I understand that it is important to keep the pinion and barrel dry so it doesn't "clog up". I was worried about rust, but I suppose the warm and dry environment in the ...

200 Miles. Quite a distance.
There is a provision on the heater for the windscreen demister. I just did not hook this up yet.

starter motor

Hi all,

I am re assembling the pinion and barrel on the starter motor but I am not sure if I should oil that area. I seem to remember that it should remain "dry".
Perhaps very thin oil?

Cheers,

Rein

The Minor is garaged in our neighbouring village. I will make some pictures tomorrow and post them.

The heater in my car is (if I am not mistaken) made in Wellington New Zealand. It is basic and not very efficient but was just able to keep us warm in the New Zealand (north island near Wellington) winter. Outside temperatures would occasionally drop below zero. One hose is connected to the top of t...

After separating the inlet from the exhaust I found it difficult (not impossible) to align the inlet manifold.

I did get useful information from the Dutch Morris Minor forum, but no clarification regarding the New Zealand Minors. I don't want to stamp in the V.I.N. number myself because I am not sure what the requirements are. (And I have to buy the tools). For the authorised person to do this at the testing...

I did check this out, No numbers found. It appears that the New Zealand cars (perhaps all export or CKD minors?) only used a small identification aluminium label.

VIN number

Hi all. Next week I want to register my Minor in Holland. The Minor is imported from New Zealand and therefore is a completely knocked down version. Did the CKD Minors in New Zealand have a VIN number stamped in the chassis? I have been told that In Holland a requirement is a stamped in VIN number. ...

Thanks all.

I would imagine that two pieces of metal sliding need lubricating. I also understand that dirt and grit sticks to it. hmmmm? It is a dilemma.
I will try both and see which on I like better.

rear springs

Hi all.

Should or should I not oil/lubricate the rear leaf springs?

Rich/lean: I don't see any difference when I look at the plugs in both situations. Perhaps the difference is to small? I know that the 1098 box has got a summer and winter position, but when set in summer position, the inlet is still close to the exhaust manifold. I therefore figured that the 948 bo...

airfilter box

Hi all, I have noticed that the 948 airfilter box gives better airflow than the later 1098 model ones. The car pulls up a particular hill in fourh gear and with the 1098 airfilter box I need to change down to third gear. It is also possible that the 948 box is able to draw in cooler air I suppose? C...

gap for reluctor

I am using a reluctor in my Morris Minor ignition. I forgot to check the gap between the rotor and reluctor when I took it from the donor car.
I set the gap at 0.5mm but haven't got a clue if this is correct.
Anyone using a reluctor (perhaps on a modern car)?

Cheers,

Thanks. I allready have an idea how to make another connection for the vacuum hose if I use one of those aluminium spacers between the carb and manifold. The vacuum connection on the SU is practicly on top of the butterfly. So that is why completely closed it is drawing no vacuum. I have been thinki...

Do I understand correctly that the economy will increase when you are able to advance the ignition even more? This is the mechanical advance I assume because there is no vacuum advance under load and the engine is only pinking under load. By the way, I noticed something that I never realised. When I...
