You're thinking of his dog - and it's a kennel, not a Spitfire

It already is tax exempt. You may need to get the status changed to 'historic vehicle', but that should just means getting in touch with the DVLA

I'm puzzled. The only mention of 'smoke' that I can find are in your posts and Kevin's signature. Doesn't mean they aren't there, of course

Does seem that way :( It can only be out by 180 deg though - try rearanging the leads, rather than taking the thing out and changing it - it won't damage anything

Does sound like it's 180 degrees out - 9 o'clock should be between plugs 4 and 2. Easy solution is to just move the olug leads on the dissy cap so that that one leads to plug one, Back to basics - have you remembered that the dissy rotate anticlockwise, and the firing order is 1 3 4 2?

They're 'Mazac', some nasty brittle alloy*, but they're OK to sand and paint. Just be careful removing them - they snap

*Aha - Mazac (Note: Alloy of Zinc, Aluminum, Copper)

The prince of darkness gag is a very old one here too :) Not saying that I'm a huge Lucas fan, just that the indicator arm seems to me to be a well put together thing - I'm sure everyone else did them better though...

Agreed. The stalk is a lovely bit of engineering - and I really don't think Bakelite would have been better, quite the opposite, in fact.

the rust is far from anything structural. It's a unitary design, so it's ALL structural. but it's a fair way away from suspension/seat belt mounts etc. Worst that could happen? A roadside VOSA inspection and the car being taken to the crusher. There seems to be a fad for them just now. Have to agree...
