Re: Underseal removal

Hope you don't find any nasty surprises underneath, as I did last week!

All the best

Re: Okay, what've I missed (this time)?

On the old one (besides the jet being messed up, all the nuts etc fused together), it was sticky, with the piston "catching" somehow, leaving light scoring on both the piston and the suction disc. Not knowing just what caused this, wouldn't it risk messing up the replacement?

Re: Okay, what've I missed (this time)?

Right, boiling water - will give it a go. Yes, I've currently got linearaudio's old carb, and it's okay but likes to run lean - with a "1098" AN needle: I want to try it with the M needle that "matches" the engine, without forking out for another needle when there's one sitting t...

Okay, what've I missed (this time)?

Trying to take the needle out of my old carb, to put in the new one. I've removed the retaining screw. But the needle won't budge: shouldn't it just slide out? There's a small sort of brass button set in the base of the piston, which I've tried pressing too. Just seized after not being touched for 4...

Re: MOT history from VOSA site.

Both my cars run back to late 2005/early 2006: guess that's when the computerised system was introduced?

Interesting to read through the history of the g/f's 16 year old golf, and verify that the garage we bought it off had told us the truth about all its faults

Nice! Though I'm sure it's supposed to be muddier... but that'll come in time (or not!)

Thanks for fulfilling my curiosity guys - I'm both personally and professionally interested in how people use/perceive "social media". Nice range of responses.

Most of my car-related tweets are short(er than they have to be!) and either ecstatic or frustrated :-)

Twitter?

Just wondering, are any denizens of the message boards also tweeters?

Are there any particular hash-tags you tend to use when making car related posts?

'cos I've seen mini ones advertised at reasonable prices, but not minor ones (though TBH I've not looked in the greatest detail). Should I consider that an offer? :-P

I don't think it helps that jet is loose and the screw that secures it won't stay secured - I'm not sure whether it's that one of the threads has somehow gone (and if so, if I need to replace jet screw, bearing, or what??), or I need to renew one or more of the *stack* of washers there are. There's ...

Thanks for the advice - so you'd confirm as reasonable a broad plan of: * cheapo mini carb for a "spare", fitted in the meantime - imperfect economy/power, but smoother running at least * strip and clean up the current one at leisure, and see if that sorts it * if, as garage-given advice s...

How much difference does the needle make? I ask as my carb's now really rather worn, and sticking although it seems to center properly... I'm thinking that a cheap mini-needled or similar carb that works properly could be better than a "correct" one that doesn't, as a stop-gap while I sort...

ESM head - hmmm. Good luck! Head change is about an hour's work - less if you know what you are doing! Well, I've had all sorts of other parts from ESM and never had a problem, plus it does come with a guarantee... and I don't think I do know what I'm doing where this is concerned! Tell you what, I...

Ian's not doing up the old head - he's swapping it for one that's already been reconditioned, supplied by ESM. Is this by any chance the moment when everyone turns around and asks if I don't have a set of spanners to perform such a simple job myself? I was more referring to possible difference in pe...

Sleipnir's in for surgery...

Not the most major operation, but Sleipnir's spending this week at the garage. When I get her back, she will have a new, unleaded, head, and four new tyres.

Here's looking forwards to having a top speed over 55 again, and grip on the road!
