The gaiters on my saloon, which I've owned for just over a year, have also suddenly perished on both sides and let out all the grease! They were fine when I bought the car.
I've noticed that the modern replacements are made of a very floppy, thin rubber.

Any idea what wheels these are? They remind me of the ones on Garry Ellis' famous custom convertible.Ian46 wrote:[frame][/frame]

Re: Longer Choke cable woes
I'd have to agree with bmcecosse. I've tried a Weber 28/36DCD on my 1275cc Midget engine and it was hopeless - no amount of fiddling with it would get it to run right. I also tried a Weber 45DCOE on an MGB GT and promptly blew a hole in No 4. piston! :o I have the standard equipment Weber 34ADF15/25...

Re: boot rubber adhesive
My 2-door saloon came with no seal fitted, but two spare lengths in the boot! They didn't have any sticky back, so I used impact adhesive.

Re: Advantages of Telescopic Dampers
FWIY, I fitted a 'cheap' Mr Grumpy's basic oil telescopic damper kit (with 45 degree angled Gabriel dampers) to the rear of my 1275cc Traveller back in 1995, 38,000 miles ago, and it's still performing well, certainly far better than I ever remember the lever arm ones doing, even after I replaced th...

Re: Mgb disc brakes
I hear what you're saying there! I purchased the car with the hubs and standard Minor wheels fitted, but would like a set of the Morris 575 hubs to match the 4.5" PCD of the rear axle. They appear to be very difficult/impossible to get hold of though

Re: Mgb disc brakes
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I am interested in such a conversion, as I bought a Minor with MGB banjo rear axle with 4.5" PCD but with the Marina front discs, which appear to be 100mm PCD (4" PCD Minor wheels just squeeze onto the studs!) This makes for awkwardness when it comes to s...

I fitted original BMC static belts into my 1965 2-door Minor, and they just bolted in.

Re: Dean's 1971 Traveller Fiat/Lancia Twin Cam Project
Nice work! I'm also working on a 1965 Minor 2-door with Fiat twin cam, now running pretty well, just needing carpets to complete. I found that the Fiat engine block mounted mechanical fuel pump wasn't very efficient, so mounted a Facet electronic pump just aft of the fuel tank, which works well, tho...

Re: Mini steering ignition column
I finally got my Minor's Mini steering column fully functional, though I had to dismantle the indicator stalk because the terminals had sunk down too far in the housing base, and weren't making contact - a rather poor quality design :( At least the assemblies are rebuildable fairly easily though, wh...

Re: Mini steering ignition column
Hi, I'm currently doing wiring on a Fiat twin-cam 1965 Minor saloon, which has the Mini steering column fitted, so I'm also having to ponder at length how to adapt the Mini wiring loom to work on a Minor... Thanks for the tips/diagrams above :) My progress can be followed on Retro Rides here http://...

Re: Mazda MX5 engine conversion
Well done to the original poster for reviving their trusty A series engine. Having an A series is one of the major plus points of the Minor as it is a reliable, economical and easy and cheap engine to work on. I also think it is s good looking and sounding engine- tough too you can boil them dry wi...

Re: Mazda MX5 engine conversion
People keep saying this, but me and my brother have run them for a good while without problems (1.8 in a 1998 Freelander and 1.6 in a 1999 Rover 416SLi). As long as you keep an eye on the coolant level and temperature gauge, they're not as bad as the reputation would suggest.

Yacht chandlers sell a product based on oxalic acid which is very effective. Alternatively, E-bay lists quite a few products:

Re: Mazda MX5 engine conversion
Well, in the end, I fixed up the 1275 Midget engine in the Traveller with a matching Midget close-ratio gearbox, new clutch and a late Metro unleaded cylinder head, and it's running sweetly with the addition of this neat little electronic ignition conversion: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lucas-25D-electron...

Mazda MX5 engine conversion
Hi, I have a '70 Traveller to which I fitted a 1275cc MG Midget engine and Ford Orion disc brakes, but I've been considering an alternative engine transplant, seeing as my gearbox & clutch are now a bit kippered. Quite fancy the idea of a modern twin cam of 1.6-2.0 litres and a 5-speed box would...
