Re: Quarter floor fitment (especially rear)

As I said, each to their own. You would however hope that those of us repairing cars to convey our own family members and not just to make a quick few quid would take the time to learn. When I was taught to weld, some 25 years ago, I was told that a decent weld, even with a MIG should require very l...

Re: Quarter floor fitment (especially rear)

Kevin, I cannot think of a single reason why grinding the top of the weld bead would reduce its strength. The floor is only 18 gauge steel so a competent welder should have no problem with getting the weld to penetrate through the join, grinding the surface weld bead will then only reduce the thickn...

Re: Quarter floor fitment (especially rear)

Just a thought, but how about buying the quarter floor and the extensions. Cut out the edge section under the sill step and weld in the repair panel. Now trim the edge of the floor repair so you can seam weld them together creating a one piece panel that replicates the original. If your concerned ab...

Re: Early MM parts

Still plodding away, managed to get the bottom of the rear quarter repaired and stitched back on. https://i.imgur.com/Iw3zis9.jpg I made the mistake of buying a box of cheap flap discs, you can see the difference in the finish between the upper weld and the lower one. Wont be buying them again! I ma...

Re: Early MM parts

Well, I started working my way along, I knew the end of the sill was a little soft and looking down through the rear quarter there was a huge build up of debris so I decided it was best to open up the rear quarter for a proper look. Sure enough the end of the sill was rotten and the bottom section o...

Re: Early MM parts

John, odd as it sounds it has really helped that I can only spend around half an hour after work at a time on it. It forces me to go over everything I have and have not done before I crack the MIG out. Philip, I had a breaker lined up to take it away shortly after the cost of shipping became prohibi...

Re: Early MM parts

Got all the left hand panels reassembles to find near perfect door gaps. So that was nice!

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration

I've used Lechler products a fair bit. They are about as good as it gets.

Re: Early MM parts

Not the fastest progress but I have been pottering away and I'm slowly getting back into the swing of it. When I cut the A post off I cut along the joggled flange leaving part of the inner flitch in place, in order to save that flange the repair panel above has a reverse joggle that is plug welded b...

Re: Where to start

If the doors do not fit properly now then you need to tweak everything until they do, then brace the aperture. Otherwise you risk bracing the body out of alignment.

Re: Early MM parts

I can't bring myself to crush this old girl so whilst the Boss is still happy for it to be in the workshop I'm going to play with some rust. There will be minimal if any repair panels, partly because I would like the car to remain more Morris than Hadrian but also because of the obscene mark up plac...

Re: Early MM parts

I was waiting for something like that, Rob. I'll be honest in its current state and with no running gear I thinking more 250 quid. I may try and blag some extra storage time at work due to this silly Beer virus, may even fix some more rust and revisit the idea once this has all blown over. Cheers, Rod

Re: Early MM parts

Hi Rob, issue would be storage. I had to move the car to work when we moved house, I no longer have my big detached double garage to hide things in. The Wives car and my two old Triumph Motorbikes live in the carpeted attached double garage. Filling it with random bits of motorcar would likely lead ...

Hopefully this should make registering it a little easier as well. You have to like proper old log books!

Re: Early MM parts

Sorry Rob, I don't. However a quick local Google brings these guys up https://tauruslogistics.co.nz Being Christchurch based makes them handy. May be worth an email if you wanted to dip your feet. I can assemble as much as I can so you only have a Morrie shaped lump and not lots of seperate parts ta...

Re: Early MM parts

Well Gents, The car owes me less than a grand N/Z, I don’t need to make a profit and will happily take a loss to a good home. I have access to a van and salvage trailer, there are several shipping firms here in Christchurch that will rent a container or space within one and I will gladly load everyt...

Re: Early MM parts

There is a similar system here, you can put a vehicle on hold for a maximum of 12 months and you have to keep renewing. People forget! Would you be disappointed to hear that the Classic Car Club of N/Z are quite often consulted on such law changes? Anyhow this the old girl when I dragged her out of ...

Re: Early MM parts

This particular rule applies because the car has been deregistered. If a vehicle remains unregistered for over a year it falls off the system, in order to get it back on the road it requires certification, which if you like is a very in depth MOT. Brakes are stripped, interior panels removed etc. Si...

Re: Early MM parts

It would indeed be a shame, I’m English and a motor mechanic by trade. I spent a great deal of time welding cars and this one is not that bad. None of that changes the fact that the law here now does not allow me to repair it and it needs to go some where. If I find someone that wants to ship it bac...

Re: Early MM parts

Rob, I would love too. I've been talking with a chap about the possibility of doing so. The very last thing I actually want to do is crush it. As for how bad, it has rust in the A posts and floor edges. The left chassis rail has been poorly repaired around the eye bolt causing the suspension arm to ...
