Re: Moggy migration

Thanks for the replies. The last thing I would want to do is export only to find plenty of hassle, hence why I raised the question. Careful research is required on this subject.
Cheers, LD.

Moggy migration

Hi all, I know this is probably a long shot, but is there anybody with experience of taking a cherished classic car to New Zealand? What are the rules regarding road worthiness and vehicle road tax for a classic car? Any help much appreciated.

Excellent  I have a £400 Cavalier as my daily drive and have seldom been happier with a set of wheels. Although she's 21 she's still doing good work and proving the environmental catastrophe of the scrappage scheme wrong. I can't even begin to tell you how much it makes you smile when overtaken...

Re: Repairing valve on modern car

If you obtain a gates cam belt kit the timing belt is childs play to tension as there are detent marks on the follower which show correct position/tension. More problematic is removal of the water pump as they always corrode to the block but flush is worth a try first as the cam followers are very p...

Re: This Europe referendum malarkey

I have no strong feeling either way whether to stay in or out. I'm currently leaning towards out as there is one thing that gets under my skin. When someone is found guilty of a crime and a UK court finds them guilty, they can then go to a European court and get a different result and ours gets qua...

Re: Re-registering a 6 chr number plate?

I don't get "Vanity plates" as Frasier Crane calls them, I guess I'm not into one upmanship so why would I? Probably more sensible to put the 5K into a decent car and leave the poor old mog with it's original identity.

I'm not surprised it's from dear old Enzed, the country is made of that, 6" nails and 4x2 at least all our houses were  Oh and the most beautiful hardwoods of course. Maybe there's a market for a Rewa Rewa traveller.

Re: Are classic cars for everyday use?

The biggest issue you are likely to find is classic car insurance that covers you for commercial use. When I used my van for my business it was only available at market, not agreed value, which was probably about £35.00 in their book. Good luck though, the situation may have changed, and 20 years on...

Re: Traveller roof respray

I second Tysonn's top tip, works very well. When I did mine I sprayed etch primer all over and did the roof in top coat before fitting to car, then blew in the gutters after fitting having sealed them with Tigerseal where top edge meets roof.

Re: And the windscreen suddenly went bang...

I've fitted Laminated screens to both Minor and Citroen DS, never been a problem and never had one crack Various Minors 7 occasions and counting. Have also done sides and rears on many occasions in toughened and never broken one. The glass on older cars is upto 2x the thickness of modern car glass s...

Re: supercharger

I used to have a Shorrocks supercharged 1275 convertible and it was a joy to drive. The low down torque was impressive and as you wound up the revs it was like there were two engines running under the bonnet. It surprised a good many modern cars as it went sailing by  I guess that is the price ...

Respect for going all that way in a 2CV. Citröen are possibly the finest purveyors of posterior comfort. I have owned a Xantia which was incredibly comfortable and currently have a DS which is like driving around in the lounge, not built for rushing though.

I think from memory Jawel paints in the midlands do them, and they do have a long "pot life" so the activator must be fairly slow

Re: new engine mounts rubber to hard

The rubber used in the new mounts is way too hard. The way I solved the problem was to source some NOS ones. The difference was stratospheric so it's not just a case of your old ones being too soft. Interesting idea to drill them though. Poly would be the ultimate but I suspect the volume would not ...

Re: What to 'sheath' wiring with?

If it's any help I have used a fabric insulating tape which has an almost identical appearance to the original. This stuff was used by Citroen to bind looms and in the process of Restoration I have used quite a bit. It is so tough you have to cut it with scissors but it makes a nice tight, neat job....

Re: Painting Engine - Primer to Use ?

I have always used red lead or it's latest incarnation which doesn't contain lead. This forms a good basis for the enamel. There aren't many paints that truly prime and top coat in one and enamel was never designed to do both. Never had an issue with it peeling off so works for me.

Re: Outdoor Car Covers

I bought a stormforce version from coveryourcar.co.uk which has done sterling service on my DS even in the very strong UV down here in the south of England. The fit is excellent and even in the heavy rain the car remains dry as a bone, also when it is cold there is no build up of condensation as wit...
