Re: Carburetor adjustment doing nothing

If the adjustment is not doing anything it could be wear to the needle or jet. These do wear and changing them can result in dramatic improvements. I think I would start here if you don't know the history of the jet and needle

Does anyone know if there are showers this year?

And if so what times they will be open?

Re: Engine misfire advice

I have been watching this thread with interest. I thinks there is a lot of superstition around head gaskets and what makes them last. I have had 2 payen copper gaskets fail. The shortest was 3000 miles on a refreshed engine where both the head and block were skimmed before fitting. I personally will...

Re: Heater valve replacement?

I went down a different route fitting a 3 way valve. This ensures water is always passing through the top of the head and is either sent back(off) or to the heater(on). I was able to use the original control inside the car to operate the valve The valve I used is in the link below. I fitted it insid...

Re: Engine misfire advice

Are you able to do a compression test on it? That might give us some clues into what is wrong. Given your description I am suspicious of the head gasket but the compression test will prove or do prove this

Re: Jumping out of gear

Something at the back of my mind tells me this can occur if you have a 948 gearstick in a 1098 box?

Might be worth looking at 1st

I have fitted the lucas kit. It was reasonably straight forwards. I was glad of it when my fuel pump stopped working on a country lane

Re: Seat straps

I use standard seat webbing which is availae very cheaply. It's been on my cars for 15 years.

You can reuse all the old clips if you prize them open with a suitable leaver and pliers

Re: Installing a windscreen

When I did my van I sourced a black filler strip. This was a little more flexible and hence easier to fit

Re: Installing a windscreen

I use plastic coated washing line to fit them. It's smooth and does not snag like cord can do.

Front screens usually go in OK, but the filler strip is another matter.

I have had 2 lucas sports coils a few years ago Both failed in service after a few months. I would not advise using these.

I have had this before. I stripped and replaced all the seals in all the cylinder and applied red grease to the bore. This fixed the issue.

Europarts has always been good for me. Its local and if you preorder it you can take advantage of significant online discounts. Just had a bosche battery fail after 3.75 years on a minor of its 4 year guarantee. It was exchanged with no quibble. I am sure there are others like it. My experience woul...

Re: interchangeability of rear seat

I believe the earlier duotone seats have a higher back than the later ones. It should still fit but it will look different and you will need to consider changing rear seat belt mounts if you have them

Re: Fuel spill

Has anyone else noticed the more expensive petrol becomes the rate of delivery at the pump slows down? Perhaps I imagine it but I am sure the large supermarket near to me does this.

Back to the original thread mine spits back too. If anyone know how to stop this please post

Re: Windscreen rubber infill trim

The rubber on mine dates from the 1980s at least. It's black all over with no infill. Sadly it is past its best so I would like to replace with a black only.
