When I rebuilt my engine, I wasn't sure whether the timing was 180 degrees out and I wanted to be sure before fitting the engine. It was sat on a home made wooden trolley, I attached a battery, filled the carb from a tube and funnel and fired it up. I only ran it for a few seconds due to no cooling,...

cutting a manifold in half

My minor is running a treat after I chucked the wrong head off, I have seen somewhere that a small power increase is possible by separating the inlet manifold from the exhaust. Is it straight forward to cut the existing manifold or am I better getting a second one and hack the two parts I don't want...

The big ends were fine, but the centre main bearing was down to the copper backing. So it was out with the crank, all the mains were down to the copper but the big en...

On the site Mig Weld Uk several people have upgraded the wire feed by either strenthening the wire feed roller mechanism or by wiring a direct feed via a separate transformer to the wire feed motor.

according to many owners SIP migs are notorious for their poor wire feeds. It's a shame because they seem to very popular and widely available.

He's found himself another expert! the consensus is as you rightly say there shouldn't be a sender in the head, although of the 4 heads I have seen 3 had sensors. The spare wire is probably from a missing oil filter blocked sensor. Thanks again for you input.

next time he rings, as sure as hell he will, I will ask him the colour. I didn't dismantle the wiring so I am unsure of what goes where, When I connected the lt to the dizzy it burnt the little wire inside, so I knew that was wrong and it was easy to find right wire. Then I was left with 2. One to t...

I'm a bit of a tool collector by nature, my wife goes mad when I buy "yet another tool" sadly experience has taught me that if I borrow a tool I end up buying 2, one to replace the one I have lost or broken, the second to do the original job because I have returned a brand new tool to the ...

good second hand gearbox I have another box, it came with the engine and back axle I have fitted and are good. I have had a look through the side plate hole and it looks very good inside, no marks on the teeth what so ever, I'll take a chance and fit it. Luckily its only a days job to do the swap.

At the last mot on my other classic. I tested the foot brake and the hand brake prior to the test and both worked satisfactorily. I have struggled with my mig welder on thin metals for years, in fact since I owned it, but thanks to advice from mig weld uk forum It now welds to a satisfactory standard. I started with all settings at their lowest and gently increased each until I got a decent run. If there are holes in the weld ...

jumping out of gear

My 1098cc gearbox jumps out of 3rd gear on deceleration, apart from that its perfectly ok. I had just read in a magazine that a wrongly adjusted clutch can cause jumping out of gear, it didn't give details. Knackered gearbox or badly adjusted clutch, what are your thoughts please,
