Re: Diff and Gearbox Upgrade

May I intrude please to ask for a bit of gearbox help? An acquaintance is restoring an A40 Farina and has the well known Klonk Klonk noise in first gear of his smooth-case box. What I am trying to find for him is a Parts Book Illustration with the adjacent parts list so that he can order the correct...

Re: What's your morris minors name?

Thought I would just jump in here even though my "new" car is a 1956 Oxford. After much thought we decided to call her Myrtle because it is a bit old fashioned and it begins with M. Ten minutes after telling a friend about this he sent the following: There once was an Oxford named Myrtle W...

Re: Sorry to be leaving you but ...

Oops, I hit send too soon :-) That was the car from 50 years ago. Here is the one I have just bought on the day that Millicent the '50 Tourer left for her new home in the US. Yvonne and I had a wonderful, sometimes exciting, time crossing five states and one of the great lakes with this car that has...

Sorry to be leaving you but ...

... I have a new allegiance. A few months ago a friend sent me a copy of an ad to sell a 1956 Morris Oxford, a car I owned and loved 50 years ago.[frame]Image[/frame]

Re: MM with ALTA HEAD IN CANADA still for sale

Thanks for the plug Bryan, I really appreciate it. I have Millicent on Kijiji in Hamilton Ontario where a little bit of googling should find it. The price will be reduced every Friday until someone pulls the trigger. It's like a Dutch auction in slow motion :D . Somebody will probably get a bargain....

Re: mm - alta head wanted

Hi Bessie, I have one but it comes on a car. I have had the car for sale for quite some time now but no luck so far. Canada to UK is a bit too far anyway. glove box liner series MM

I would like to have a glove box liner for my 1950 Morris series MM . ESM has some for Vans and pickups but they don't mention saloons. Was the van so different from the saloon that this could not be adapted? Mine is a LHD model so the one I need is for the right side which is shaped to allow for th...

Re: Out of round drum

I too have drums that have been skimmed too far and they were probably centred on the hole not the studs because "That's the way we do it." On the advice of some others I went looking for a good used pair and fortunately located them on this continent (North America). I have yet to examine...

Re: Anyone used these tyres on their Minor?

If 135/80R14 is the perfect match for the original 5.20X14 then the 150/70R14 is only 3% smaller in diameter. Don't forget that the aspect ratio is a percentage of the tire width. Beginning with a wider tire means the height is pretty close. The width is also a bit less than the currently popular 15...

Re: sump seals

What I have heard is that the seals ARE the right length. Don't cut them! That said, when last I fitted bottom end gaskets to my MM the machine shop owner where the work was being done refused to believe that so much protrusion was right.

They cut the cork seals - and the engine leaks!

Re: Spare MM gearstick, anyone?

I think there were a couple of those in the job-lot of parts I just sold to an MM owner in Owen Sound Ontario. His name is James Ellis <squeezeboxman76 (at) hotmail (dot) com>.
If you have no other luck I'm sure he would be glad to help.

Re: Selling my house.

By quite a coincidence I too have a house for sale. Almost the same size as yours, four bedrooms, three baths, one of them en-suite, a two car garage, but a much smaller garden. Actually the sale has just been confirmed after a wait of almost three months. Of three prospective buyers one finally com...

Re: Front Tyre wear/Camber Angle

Been noticing unusual pattern of tyre wear. Front offside worn on outside edge. Steering fine and light. NSFront not worn in this way. Garage says Toe in not likely to be causing this problem. Car has had new chassis rails on the front both sides and Nearside King pin and trunions replaced complete...

Heater Valve

Well, after 18 months in the shop my '67 Minor Saloon is back home and everything seems pretty good except the heater is warming my feet and the outdoors temperature is already 30 degrees Celsius! The cable is connected to the valve and everything moves but still it's warm. The expensive fix is to r...

I'd have a close look at the body work rear floor and the chassis legs before investing any time or money in the mechanical work. Nuts and bolts and stuff is easy but too much rust will break your heart.

I would also check that the carburetor and inlet manifold gaskets are not leaking causing a very lean mixture. Have you tried a notch or two of choke when it lacks power?

Re: What the heck was that!

I was driving down the road, all of a sudden there was a loud bang, sounded like I had gone over a pot hole, got out to check, everything looked fine, no pothole in sight. Got back in the car put her into gear went about 2 foot another bang. checked again couldn't see anything obvious. Got back in,...
