I have the same problem and assumed that the side panels are for the later models and not available for the Series2. I seem to remember reading that the back seat doesn't fold easily with new panels but I can't remember, possibly Newton Commercial where I bought my new panels from.

Re: do minors suffer from oversteer?
Hi again
Just read a guide to tyre pressure in a pull out in the Practical Classics magazine and the pressure they recommend for Bridgestones on aMinor is 24psi? Won't be doing that but the chart can be misleading.

Re: do minors suffer from oversteer?
Been away but now back. Thanks for the replies, although I did think that one of the replies was a bit too much! I checked various things, bushes, steering etc and I think the main problem was under inflated tyres. They are new Bridgestone tyres and the tyre place suggested 25psi but from your comme...

Hi again
Forgot to mention that alignment shouldn't be a problem from the work I did and I will check the front alignment.
Thanks

Re: do minors suffer from oversteer?
Hi
I did some welding the spring shackles both ends and replaced the rubber bushes. I'll check for loose bits but just passed the MOT so shouldn't be anything obvious. Will up the tyre pressures. The oversteer isn't bad it may just that I am used to none.
Thanks

do minors suffer from oversteer?
Hi all
Just finished a restoration on a Traveller, fitted new radials (Bridgestone) and the car seems to oversteer. Maybe I am used to neutral cars. Any opinions anyone.

Re: ignition timing and modern petrol?
Thanks for the reply. I started with the timing at about 6 degrees BTC and when the book said 4 I thought it wouldn't be right way based on performance so will take your advice and adjust as suggested.

ignition timing and modern petrol?
Hi all
Just wondered if the ignition timing stated in the book, 4 degrees BTC, still applies when using the petrol avaiable at todays filling stations. The engine is 803cc Series 2.

Re: front wheel bearing play with new bearings
Hi all Just to clear up the shim measurement after I measured it properly. The thickness of shim was 0.0015th which is approximately 0.03mm. I used 2 shims to make up 0.003th. The shim Chris from Germany used was 0.01mm. I would think that the size is irelevant since there shouldn't be wear anyway, ...

Re: front wheel bearing play with new bearings
Hi all The bearings were the right way round but still had play. Thanks Monachris for your information. I made 2 shims (one wasn't enough) but the shim material was thinner than .001 out of sheet shim and the problem was solved. Next time I go to a car parts/autojumble I will try to get made ones to...

Hi
Thanks for the comments. I went on the route of tape (hands not steady enough!) Result seems okay in fact I am quite pleased with the result and I will let you know if it comes off.

front wheel bearing play with new bearings
Hi I have just fitted new bearings on the front rh but the play is still there. I searched the forum and found that it is not uncommon and fitting a shim solves it. I assume from that that the spacer is touched before the bearing is tight in the hub am I correct? Can the spacers be obtained from Min...

insurance for a series 2 traveller?
Hi
I keep getting insurance quotes around £108 for my 1954 Series 2 Traveller in standard form which is the same quote as my MG TD with a value of £16000. I'm valuing the Traveller at £5000. I would be interested to know if this is normal.
Thanks

coach lines, paint or tape?
Hi all
Just getting round to putting the stripes back on my bonnet and door. I'm thinking of tape because hands not steady enough and any ideas for supplier. What colour should the stripes be on a 1954 Claredon Grey Traveller?
Thanks in anticipation

series 2 heater leaks!
Hi
If the heater matrix on a series 2 (late 54) leaks could anyone tell me the best way to get round the problem? I assume that replacement ones are not available unless anyone has one they care to sell.
Thanks

Re: 1954 series 11 speedo info wanted
Hi Mike My speedo has the no 51 114 401 09 1000 which seems to fit the bill on your information. I don't think any of the mechanicals have been changed. Hi David I should have checked the wiring diagram if the speedo has four lights and the indicators have a timer. I was mislead by having another sp...

1954 series 11 speedo info wanted
Hi I have a 1954 Series 11 traveller and would like to know if the speedo is the correct one. The one I have has 4 small lights, I assume they are main beam, charging light, oil pressure and indicators. The query is on the indicator light - do the semaphore arms use this light or is it a later unit ...

Re: door release catch query
The window surround/frame is already out as part of the general repair and paint with new rubbers etc. The spring clip seems to be visible but inside the mechanism without a bit sticking out to get pliers on.
Thanks
John

Re: Traveller resto
I rolled my traveller onto it's side. There is a dvd advertised on ebay showing the basics of rolling and welding but tthe rolling is fairly easy with enough help, 4 minimum. Once on it's side you will be able to see clearly what is needed and where.
