Re: Rear brake pipe
A caution regarding the T on the rear axle and its flex pipe, early in the 1000 production the flex was changed to be the same as the front flex. That required changing the T from all BSF to UNF for the flex and BSF for the rigid pipes.

Re: Stronger Halfshafts
A couple years back I queried owners and my conclusion was halfshaft failure is more attributed to component alignment than power transmitted or driver style. If you have the original halfshafts that are over fifty years in use, then they most likely will continue to survive behind a 1275.

Re: Brake bleed nipples and union screws
The front wheel cylinders have different types of flares than the other connections. It doesn't hurt to compare the shape of the flares to see that they are compatible.

Re: Half shaft refit - handedness?
When you are examining the wear surfaces of the splines, look for uneven wear, specifically a more pronounced wear at the end of the engagement with the differential. If it's there it will be an inch to an inch and a half in from the end. It could be an indication of a possible half shaft failure in...

Re: Tyre dating
No need to apply the current five year age limit to cross plys. Radial tyres are the norm these days and have much thinner side walls that have little tolerance for cracks with little to no re-enforcement. However, most tyres will get harder with age.

Re: Car losing power….where to start
A section of clear tubing before the pump can be a useful diagnostic device. The most common occurrence of vapourisation occurs on the vertical run to the pump. This is where the pressure of the fuel will be the lowest allowing it to vapourise first. Bubbles just start appearing like a carbonated dr...

Re: Engine installation problem
803, 948, 1098, 1275 all install basically the same. Trying to remove or install with both front towers installed require much prying to remove or insert the front engine mounting blocks. The engine is moving vertically, but the studs on the mounting blocks are perpendicular to the angled mounting f...

It's possible that the pistons are different. The drawing shows some extra features on the right piston. There has to be a check valve or something on one of the pistons to allow oil to fill the working chamber.

Re: Passenger glove box lid insert?
The change in lids to have the chrome trim required a new die to make a smaller lid. The ash is the same. However, you will need to fabricate the mechanism to hold the lid closed.

Re: Passenger glove box lid insert?
Yes that's it. Rather common over here. It might have be part of the deluxe package although it requires a different way of holding the lid shut. Some of which needs to be done before painting I think.

Re: Passenger glove box lid insert?
From mid 59 (when the parcel shelf was extended) until the elimination of the lids, the glove box lids received a chrome edging and fabric covered wooded inserts. The passenger side had a sliding metal bracket that would hold the lid level. No depressions.

For most years of Midgets that is true. The Midget rack was changed at some point, maybe early Seventies. It looks different.

Of course the obvious, not enough fuel in the tank. With just a gallon, the inlet must be located correctly.

Re: No Fuel to fuel pump.
What is the pump telling you? A fast rapid pumping is an air leak. A slower steady pump is good for an empty line and means it's pulling some. A quick and then slowing pumping to even stopping is indicating a clogged line.

Is it perpendicular to the body and on the back side of the trafficator? Could it be to keep any incoming water from reaching the interior side panel?

Kevin S, did you grease the surface of the seal? It's not good if they run dry until the oil gets to the seal.

The front cylinders are 7/16 AF but all the other fittings are 3/16 Whitworth which is just slightly bigger. Often a 7/16 wrench can be forced on.

500 miles was the recommendation for the Series MM. Series III states 1000 miles as well. I didn't know later recommendation was 3000 miles but thought that was just for Marinas.
