Topic: How to get the best fuel economy from a Minor

The best way to increase fuel economy is to paint your car black.

As we all know black absorbs the energy from the sun and gets hot, its a scientific fact that heat rises - the hot car gets lighter and saves fuel :D

Thats how I got 50 mpg on a run down the A1 to Brands earlier this year?

Our 4 door splittie is a daily driver and works well with our other two classic dd's The only thing to keep in mind is that if you buy a Moggie that has only been used occasionally by the previous owner, you may find some parts wear quite quickly in the first few weeks of daily use - like we did: In...

Just a quick observation, what price do we put on reliability? Is a classic as reliable as most modern cars? Most accept the depreciation of a new car due to the fact you don't really have to touch them for the first four or five years apart from servicing. The minor may not be as reliable as moder...

Probably a 3 network thing?

Their website doesn't work and a google search lists links that don't work?

Can't help but be a little suspicious of an "award" winning company who have apparently worked with people like Amy Winehouse and channel 4 etc - but they don't have a working website?

:)

Thing about IL4 sportsbike engines is that they develop their power at very high revs - you'll be doing 10000rpm everywhere! Also they (and their gearboxes) are designed to be pulling along something a third of the weight, so you might find it goes bang quite quickly. Bike engines don't tend to las...

Bike engined cars are very cool and sound awesome! Realistically the weight of a minor shouldn't be a problem Our cars all weigh around 600 - 750 kg's, we now use Busa's in almost all of our cars apart from the SR8 which has the mighty Powertec RPA V8 :) a 2.8l 450 bhp V8 revving to 10500 rpm! :D ht...

This is the exact reason for saving a many scrapped and doomed cars / bits as possible.

With the price of scrap metal as it is at the moment the temptation is too high for many but saving many of these 2nd hand resourses will keep many classic cars going for years to come.

I understood LH lane is for all exits up to 12 o'clock, the RH lane after that - unless marked otherwise. Although if you live in Peterborough it seems that the LH lane does all exits and you only use the RH lane for overtaking wildly round the outside - and during rush hour you use the lane with th...

That looks like the most likely chain of events here, now I know I can weld in a lambda boss from work and plug it with a propper bung.

Looking at the two pics placement seems about right :)

Sthoopur, now all I have to do is pull my finger our and "doit"

Not sure what level bung it should have but mine has a plain hole with a rubber grommet? which was obviously perished? The filler/level is a screw-in steel plug, either in the diff nose for earlier cars (up to around the 1098 engine), or in the back of the axle housing on later cars. Do you have a ...

Aha - so you'd rebuild any diff that you got? Oh yeah absolutely, new bearings etc - while its out is the best time to do it. "If a jobs worth doing, it worth doing right - if it aint worth doing right, is it worth doing at all?" Not that I won't re-use or re-con parts, I couldn't bring myself to g...

If you find another diff, why do you need to read up on rebuilding one? Just because my brain is kaput, it will nag me to distraction not fully rebuilding the whole thing, then waiting for a bearing to fail etc and then having to do the whole in out thing all over again (doing bits more than once i...

My 1275 is running a ford type 9 and a 4.22 diff (so the previous owner told me) and I have it in my head that even this is a bit long for my liking? (70 in fith still feels a little low in the rev range, If I remember correctly, that puts your 4th gear at standard ratio compared to a 1098 box (rev...
