Re: black plugs at tickover

Just adjust the idle mixture! 'Tan' plugs are a bit rich - light beige will be better! great :D adjusted by 1 flat - pump now ticking normally. I think the carb has always been set too rich - over 15 years now  The plugs are also lighter in colour, and its still running really well. thanks fo...

Re: black plugs at tickover

I was letting the car tick over on the drive after adjusting the mixture, to see if it improved things...

I'll adjust the mixture a tiny bit at a time - I'm happy it is running OK for the first time in a while

black plugs at tickover

After a year of running problems, I recently stripped and cleaned the carb. Its now running great – tan coloured plugs, pulling cleanly etc. Except – the plugs turn black if it is left to tick over. I’ve also noticed the fuel pump ticks every 15 secs with just the ignition on, so I checked the float...

new hood needed

The hood on our convertible has never been great, and after 15 years the window has split so we need a new hood fitted.
We are just north of London - has anyone had one fitted relatively near to us?

Does anyone have any recommendations - I want it done only once and properly :D

thanks

free tea or coffee in St Albans (a bribe....)

I picked the car up from a garage last week after it sailed through the MOT :D . 1/2 mile later – it started choking up – and broke down (first time in 15 years) It would tick over OK, but not pull away. I topped up the fuel (assuming they had run it right down, but it), but no change. I eventually ...

Re: pics from classics on the common

I'm could swear that I posted the pics at 7:20 :-?

I'll have to book the afternoon off next year.
What time did most people leave? We left Harpenden at about 7:30, and loads had already left by then.

pics from classics on the common

I've missed the Croxley Green show, so I thought I'd post some pics of the classics on the common show. I've shown the best car first (ours :D ). Met some nice owners and drooled (sort of) over the perfect minors. There was a big laugh from the pub when the minor went past on the trailer. I thought ...

Re: Classics on the Green Wednesday 4th August Croxley Green

Hi
I was at the harpenden show at 4pm, and it was getting very busy.
Will it be worth trying to get to this show at about 5:30, or will the traffic be too bad (I'm coming from St Albans).

Re: negative earth rewire!

I was just about to do the same.
I have a '55 convertible with a cylindrical heater - do I have to change the connections to this, or only older cars than mine?
Thanks

partco or specialist for service items

I have a nearby Partco which I'll use for my modern cars - does anyone know if they supply good quality service items for the MM, or is it better to order from the specialists (just thinking of points, plugs etc)
thanks

wolseley brakes overhaul

Hi I bought some Wolseley front and rear brakes a few weeks ago - the fronts look OK, but the rears look like they need an overhaul. I've never worked on drums before, so can someone please shed some light on exactly what I need to do to overhaul them? Thanks Paul[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.p...

vacuum advance??

I was just checking the points etc when I spotted a thumbwheel under the distributor - obviously I had to see if it would move... I think it may be the vacuum advance - how do I set this up as I'm not sure if I put it back in the same place... Also, I cannot drive the car at the moment (the i...

Re: what engine do I have

After cleaning arpound the engine bay with a handfull of baby wipes (still useful even though the kids are growing up fast), I found a small plate with '1100' on it. Thanks for the help. I also spotted the ribbed casing of the gearbox. After 14 years of ownership, I'm finally learning about the car ...
