Re: Best recon engine supplier?

It started knocking then was losing power when I tried to accelerate. Turned round and put it back in the garage! That was a couple months ago

Re: Best recon engine supplier?

Excellent thanks guys. Maybe I'm best off getting my engine reconditioned then. Gearbox seems to be good so that's got plenty of life left.

Best recon engine supplier?

Hi everyone I'm thinking about replacing my engine with a recon unit as I want to daily my car soon and need it ship shape. I like using ESM so I'd probably buy their recon 1098 engine at £1050 inc vat but they're out of stock currently. Any other good sources available? I'm also going to add an alt...

Re: Rear leaf springs

Ok thanks for the reply. The traveller springs will probably be ok if they're designed to take a couple of people and luggage in the back.

Rear leaf springs

Would the van/pickup leaf spring kit from ESM fit a Series 2 traveller? Or would it be an unnecessary upgrade? I do want to carry a lot of weight in the back sometimes. None seem to be in stock at the moment which is annoying.
Cheers

Re: Splitscreen Traveller

Fitted wing mirros today after seeing all the shiney moggies at Beaulieu museum a few months ago I decided I liked the placement by the quarter lights. Not difficult a job. Unscrewed the 2 screws holding the top quarter light hinge and removed quarter light. Pulled seal back and bolted through the t...

Re: Headgasket or thermostat

Fan the wrong way round could be possible but when I've had hoses off rad and flushed it, water ran through fast and free.

Re: Headgasket or thermostat

The citric acid has been in the engine for a couple of weeks now and I've done a few short drives where the engine is always very hot. Just driven to work after leaving the car sat for over a week and removed the rear drain plug from the block. There is finally some water making it's way through. It...

Re: Headgasket or thermostat

That's good to know. Considering the state of the engine I'm not worried about damaging anything. Hoses and radiators are easy to replace.

Re: Headgasket or thermostat

I'll give citric another go. I suppose the issue is if there's a sever blockage it won't ever pentrate and get around the entire block.

Re: Headgasket or thermostat

Water pump is new. Radiator has been flushed through multiple times now and is totally clear top to bottom. Top and bottom hoses get very hot once engine heats up.

Here's a photo from when I replaced the water pump. Might help to give an idea of the blocks condition!

No it's quite gentle and can be flushed down the drain so I wanted to give it a go before ordering anything online.

Re: Headgasket or thermostat

Couple of weeks ago I put a load of x800 (central heating system flush) in and ran the car around a few times over the weekend. It doesn't seem to have made a dent on the blocked block. The radiator still has clean water running through it so the coolant is definitely just pumping around the front o...

Re: Headgasket or thermostat

Just thinking out loud , could you run the engine with citric acid as coolant, will circulate it and bring it up to temperature...maybe the only downside is that the radiator fins might not like it ? John ;-) From what I've read in older posts putting citric acid through the radiator will damage it...

Re: Headgasket or thermostat

The drain hole is solid with sludge. I can get a screwdriver in about an inch. The small hole that goes down from under the thermostat is also solid. Going to try pouring some citric acid in and letting it sit over night. This could take a while. The mayonaise has been getting progressively worse an...
