Re: 1970 Trav "IGOR" (modified) PIC HEAVY!

Ash, Fantastic work.... Another one soon to be saved. It makes me smile when I think, all my saloon needs is another engine... If I thought that about a modern car it would be gone... There is something special about these little cars that means they will be around for years to come.... On the Grind...

Re: Puddles

Hi, Thanks for all of the comments, I've been out driving her today and am very happy... I drilled my 6mm holes about 2 per inch all the way up both sides, then plug welded and seam welded just to make sure, 'cos I'm cautious like that.... Interesting point.... While at the MOT centre I was advised ...

Re: Puddles

Thanks for the tip, I'd guess it's always better to have a nice metal re-enforcement strip to ensure the joint is made nicely. In the case of the leg repair that was already fitted, all I did was clean the paint off it so I could weld to it.

Re: Puddles

Thank you for your comments. I do plate but only when the size of the hole is much smaller than the entire panel. It's the same philosophy I adopted when I rebuilt my 2 door saloon 7 years ago and that's not needed any re-welding since. I feel it's more to do with rust treating and prevention than t...

Re: Changing a front leg

I'm going to try with heat tomorrow morning, my girlfriend makes glass beads with am oxy/propane torch which I hope will get the bolt hot enough. If not I'll go with the careful grinding method.... On another note, the leg itself. Am I right in thinking the best way to weld it would be to mimik spot...

Re: Changing a front leg

OK, it's now off of the car, however the eye-bolt has become one with the piece of chassis leg I had to remove to get it. I'm going to be trying WD40 overnight but don't hold out much hope.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Changing a front leg

OK, I've released all of the tension and still it won't budge... Any further hints, or is it as simple as "hit it with a big hammer until it frees itself"?????

Changing a front leg

OK, Things have progressed a lot this weekend and I'm looking at a Wednesday MOT slot, possibly wishful thinking as I've come to a bit of a blockage. I need to replace the passenger side front arm with a new one so have tipped the car on the drivers side and have started to remove the things attache...
