Re: Good ole Henrics.
I was lucky enough to live just about where the 'C' in the word 'ENTRANCE' is - a regular visitor for bits to keep my series of ex-GPO vans going. Wonder how Phil's getting on - haven't seen him for a few years now...anyone got any contact?

I'll have to answer my own query - it appears that it is still with the chap I sold it to - and is under cover but is probably undergoing the slowest restoration ever...... he's a busy man.............. one day!
Re: BUMPERS
If you are buying new, ASK if the blade has a copper layer and if the answer is no (or 'I don't know') walk away! If you can find good second-hand originals, they could be your best bet (unless you either want to go for a concours finish or pay Derby Platers a fair old wack for the best job in the w...

Re: Austin Van - First Produced
As said above , the GPO specified 848 engines for some of its vans, but were they in the Austin, rather than Morris versions? (the LCV register will know) To the best of my knowledge the PO used 803 cc engines throughout the period that 948cc engines were standard issue (ie 1956 - 1963). But don't ...

Re: Vactan rust treatment ?
Could I just remind you that whichever of these treatments you use, the rust should be minimised as much as possible (wire brush or whatever you can get in to the area) and the rust MUST BE ABSOLUTELY DRY AS A BONE or you are only going to trap the wet under whatever coating your chosen product form...

Re: How do you find your motivation?
When you start taking your engine to bits, if you haven't done it before, get yourself a little notebook and write down what you do, in order. Draw drawings where there is a need, particularly if parts could be put together the wrong way round! Get some seethrough plastic bags, the self-sealing ones...

Re: Vactan rust treatment ?
Try to get as much rust off the item you are treating as you can cos it will not penetrate thick rust, it only forms a skin of ferric tanate at the surface and because it has polymers in it, it then forms a skin so it is no good going back and trying another coat when it is dry! It is much better th...

Re: MMOC RAC Breakdown cover
Both are in the game to make money - and to do that, they need to provide a service which maintains a good reputation for them. It would appear that the AA want to provide that service at twice the price of the RAC. Both have a limit on the number of callouts you can have in a year - if you are anti...

Re: Should I Buy & Restore This?
How much to offer is always a fraught subject - so let us just consider your "starter for ten" - if the owner gets the scrap man in, the going price for scrap cars at present is 60 to 75 pounds per tonne - and a moggy is about 3/4 of a ton. That price is a) delivered to the scrap-yard and ...

I'm tempted to suggest persuading your yoga teacher that it is an excellent yoga technique for him/her to practice. Yes, ok, it may just seem like passing the buck, but why not?
Good luck (and avoid WD in this situation like the plague)!

Re: Another birthday
He has recently had new front tyres - shame that lead balance weights have been phased out as you now get so many more alloy ones, which spoil the look of the wheel (off-side even worse) :([/quote] Two options here 1) paint over the alloy weights 2) whenever you see a breakers yard go in and remove ...

Help! A little while back I purchased a plastic re-usable stencil from a lady who lived near the South coast. In order not to lose it I hung it on a nail in the workshop where it would be safe. I think someone must have removed the nail.......... Can anyone put me in touch with the supplier (I suspe...

RADIATOR STENCILS (sorted now thankyou)
About a year ago, I bought a clear plastic radiator stencil from a lady who I think lived down near the south coast. It worked perfectly and I put it in a safe place for when I needed it again - I hung it on a nail in the workshop where it was safe. I think somebody has nicked the nail....... could ...

I think that my Vauxhall Combo 1.7deisel van with the rusty roof panel and the flaking varnish is a classic. So there. And see if I care if you disagree.
