Re: Pickup restoration part three

The paint won't stick very well to chrome. Best to take it to a chromers, and they will strip the chrome for you. Takes a couple of minuets.

Re: 1971 Jersey Pickup Restoration

Yep it's Shalts seam sealer, its a rubber type of sealer which is heavier duty than standard stuff. Its not as pretty, but as this is going to be Peters daily driver is has to hard wearing.

How's it going Taupe, when you getting back on the traveler? 8)

Could have heated the screws with a blow tourch or oxygen Acetylene mix (you can now buy ready mixed like a blow torch), or you could he drilled out, shame to have cut them up

Re: 1971 Jersey Pickup Restoration

It's a good idea, but how strong is the lock if you've thinned the nut and thread, with no room for a spring washer or lock nut? You don't want these nuts working loose and the bolts falling out.
If they're the correct way they won't slip out - ever.

I don't think you'll be able to press the drainage holes in your workshop now the floor is welded into the car? Its something you need to do before the floor is welded in.

Re: Pick up Restoration (Part 2)

the front windscreen glass is out, and so are are the quarter lights, the rear glass and wind up window glass have good seals and secure locations so they stay put. Probably not perfect practice, but this is what I'm doing. The weather forecast is good for thursday, so watch out then for some cellu...

Re: why has no one made some of these?

My 1951 Beetle was fitted with these from new, and there is no rust underneath, the paint work underneath is perfect. If they are fitted correctly they will not rust.

You can just see one of them in this pic...

Smoke Grey Traveller - WPF 684G

Anyone know who's this is?

Just seen it parked in a carpark and had a quick look underneath, and wondering if the floor edge on the off-side is original? Nice job if it's not!

I can see us keeping the split screen camper as I've only just finished it and we haven't even camped in it yet but I will sell the late bay camper an...

Re: pickup restoration project

Jonathan you took the words right out of my mouth :D

I'd recommend taking all the black paint off new panels. It's really only there for when they're in storage & transit. One part of the panel might be ok under the black paint, but another could have old surface rust sitting underneath.
