Re: engine numbers

They are more than likely arbitrary engine numbers allocated when remanufactured by an unknown engine rebuilder.

Re: 1275 Oil Leaks again

Hi Roy, I've taken the car out for a good run, 20+ miles with around town speeds and a couple of 50-60 mph runs. Taking the oil filler cap off and revving the engine doesn't produce any smoke or fumes from the rocker cover and I can't see anything from the exhaust. Is this where I would be expecting...

1275 Oil Leaks again

Hi chaps, I think I still have an oil leak problem on the 1275 A+ engine in my '69 4 door. The sump seals have been replaced and the cork gaskets replaced with rubber ones. The engine still appears to be leaking oil from the rear of the mounting plate and is pooling beneath the car and producing yet...

Re: HIF 44 Carburettor linkages

Hi Richard, Daveyl,

I think the throttle cable is taught. I'll slacken it off and adjust it as you suggest. I had been using the vertical idle speed adjustment screw, but found that I that screwing it anticlockwise did not result in the idle speed reducing.

Thanks for the advice.

Re: HIF 44 Carburettor linkages

The choke seems to work fine, it's just that the tickover seems to be quite fast.

Re: HIF 44 Carburettor linkages

The idle speed screw needs to be backed off but doesn't seem to make any difference to the idle speed. Could it be that the throttle cable is pulling the fast idle cam away from the screw? Would loosening the cable make any difference? Regards John[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=137148842...

HIF 44 Carburettor linkages

Hi Guys, I have a question regarding the throttle linkages on the HIF 44 for a 1275cc A+ Ital. The start lever cam is marked JZX 1603 and the carb has a throttle quadrant taken from the HIF 38 fitted to a 1000cc Mini. Can anyone tell me if this is ok? At the moment I can't adjust the fast idle as th...

Re: engine what type?

If it's an 1100cc engine then it is the "right"engine. The Number you quote is the number allocated to it when it was remanufactured, unfortunately it would be very difficult if not impossible to find out by who. If it runs fine don't worry about it. Very few Minors have the original engin...

Upgrading Brakes

Hi Chaps,

I intend to upgrade the front brakes on my '56 Series II with later 8 inch brakes from a Series 3/5.

Looking at the Minor spares suppliers I see that the stock brake pipes for both a Series II and a 1000's.

Which brake pipes will I need to upgrade the brakes?

Notifying DVLA of change of engine

Hi Chaps,

I recently swopped out the engine in Gladys, my '69 4 door saloon, from a 1098cc to an Ital 1275cc. Do I have to notify DVLA of this change, and if so, has anyone had recent experience of this process?

Many thanks

Re: Security devices

My beloved is a '69 4 door, 6 months younger than my good self :D

Roy, a 24 year old blonde would be nice, and probably a lot less hassle!!!

4 Door Door Handle Removal

Hi Chaps,

can anyone tell me how difficult it is to remove the drivers side door handle on a 4 door? How much needs to be undone/removed before the handle can be withdrawn from the door?

Also, how difficult is it to replace the return spring?

BMC Rosettes

Hi Chaps, Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, if not Moderators please move. What dates were the BMC rosettes put on the car and where were they placed? Were they external stickers or window cling? My 4 door dates from January '69, which means she was manufactured by the BLMC and not...

My '69 4 door didn't have a "twist to lock" choke cable until I changed it to suit the later HIF 44 :-?

Re: Front hubs and wheel bearings

Hi Richard, Roy, the hub was removed to allow the bushes on the kingpins to be replaced and the kingpins repainted etc. However, when replacing the hub, the front bearing was pushed out of the hub, then, when the hub was removed again the rear bearing collapsed. I guess its my own fault, but at leas...
