Re: main beam warning light

The warning lamps need a feed and an earth. The earth is provided through the speedo, and is only good when the unit is connected ot the metal of the dashboard. A poor earth through other circuits gives dull lmaps when the unit is out. Trace the thin blue/white lead from the main beam warning lamp. ...

Re: Extra rattle

Immediaetly check compression on all cylinders. This sound could also be a head gasket failing; and there seem to have been a spate of them recently. I've found that although it's a distinctive sounds when you know what it is, many people describe it as a rattle. Hopefully it is pinking, but best to...

Re: indicator help please .

As far as possible, just follow the wiring diagram in the book. Green is probablyu feed for indcators from flasher - should be green/brown. Green/red goes to LH indicators. Green/white goes to RH indicators. The wiring harness will have natching wires. The purple is live from the horn - earth return...

Re: Exhaust clamp leak causing starting problems?

Not running on all cylinders? Immediately check compression on all four, if only to eliminate potential head gasket problems - which could also produce an odd noise that could be mistaken for an exhaust leak.

Re: Petrol Cap Seal

Petrol is a good solvent for many well known impact adhesive products, so such glues are not ideal to fit a seal.

Re: dome rubber / suspension.

Near-side (N/S) the left side of the car when looking forward from the rear. Off-side (O/S) the right side of the car when looking forward from the rear. Except on LHD vehicles driven on the right hand side of the road where the opposite is true, hence using left and right to avoid confusion

Re: dome rubber / suspension.

I suspect thyat your tap is on the left hand side of the engine, near the back, aft of the exhaust. That might be the right hand side as you look at it from the front of the car, but convention is that we always refer to the side off the car; so the distributor, starter motor snd dynamo/alkternator ...

Re: Ashtray in centre near handbrake

That picture shows perfectly where the said ashtray goes for the benefit of the rear passengers. Front ashtrays are under the parcel shelf. I believe that the rear was fitted only to deluxe specification cars, but am open to correction. The best policy is to not smoke and then you won't need the ash...

Re: Traveller roof rack

I've used a roof rack on a working traveller for years. The front clamps are attached to the steel cab gutters. The cross bars have thick foam pads that rest on the aluminium, spreading the load. This has avoid any dents for the past 40 years. When I was lyounger and ighter, I also stood on the roof...
