Re: Unknown wheels

Still trying to get the picture up, not Marina as they go over the studs fine. All I can add to the description is they have three buttons which are riveted on to the wheel for hub cap retention.

Unknown wheels

These are 13 inch wide wheels I have on the front of my car, my problem is "what are they" I would like hub caps fitted but standard minor hub caps don't fit. Could be early Midget / Sprite / Hillman Imp / Vauxhall ?.... any ideas anyone.
Sorry, having trouble uploading picture

Re: Silicone brake fluid

Another problem with my Minor brakes now, cured the binding and adjustment troubles... now not having used the car for a few weeks the peddle almost went to the floor, :-? did pump up a bit so bled it all again starting with the longest brake pipe, I did hear air bubbling out a little into the jar v...

Bonnet modification

When near completion of my car and fitting the bonnet I thought I couldn't put up with the bonnet that low causing for me back ache in no time, so here is my mod too raise it from around 32" at the catch to 36". Don't forget use a split pin after the wing nut on the other side to stop it all falling...

Re: Silicone brake fluid

Could be small air bubble's in the system, but they would have to be small as the brakes don't pump up at all, also I can't slacken off the adjustment any more because they are at the lowest setting now.Yes there is a small plop of fluid, checked that when making sure the cap hole was clear, I must ...

Re: Silicone brake fluid

I did read some of the other comments on using silicone BMC, and I did say it was a standard system, (no servo). I'm reluctant to change as I like the idea of rust free cylinder's etc...just seems like silicone expands more when things warm up.

Silicone brake fluid

My car has just been put back on the road, standard system with all new pipe's and shoe's, wheel cylinder's and a good quality master cylinder. I've used silicone fluid with no problems, doesn't pump up, brakes are good and is not spongy. However when the brakes get warm / hot, all four drums start ...

Re: Cheap alloy inlet tip

Yes I paid more for mine, tubing looks a little slimmer plus casting is better and has a maker's name.

Cheap alloy inlet tip

For those who are fitting an alloy inlet manifold to their cars, if you buy a cheapish copy like I did on line, a rather bulky thing compared with a good quality one, here are the problems you can have. Very hard to get at the inner nuts, bolt holes arnt in line and the fact that the flange is sligh...

Re: Engine runs on etc

More work involved locking up the engine to remove the pulley nut, since I have a damper pulley with late type Mini self adjusting cover fitted, I've measured 20mm round each way round the pulley, from the TDC mark the results are as follows...20mm before TDC .120 inlet, nothing on exhaust. 20mm aft...

Re: Engine runs on etc

Just done as you said, turned it once and checked the gaps on #1 cylinder valves both closer to 1.55mm then 1.50 but they are identical. Turn over once again, almost the same result (must get some new imperial feelers) .85mm inlet and a tight .20mm exhaust, Can't believe I made such a silly mistake ...

Re: Engine runs on etc

Got #4 cylinder on the firing stroke (checked it four times) and at dead TDC I've have .85mm total gap on #1 inlet valve and .15mm total on exhaust?.

Re: Engine runs on etc

Standard cam fitted, missing something in your instructions I think.......I've set both #1 valves to 60 thou, (only got metric feelers) tuned the engine over to TDC on #1, #4 cylinder firing (both valves closed), I've got .10mm differance between the #1 valves, inlet at .150mm and exhaust at .140mm.

Re: Engine runs on etc

That's a great idea to check the cam timing, didn't want to take the timing cover off again, I could test the gauge on my VW Golf which should be 160-180psi on that. The head came off a complete engine, just checked the guides over quickly and fitted it,, the pistons in the running engine are dished...

Re: Engine runs on etc

Made sure the two dot's were line up correct on assembly, this is the best I can get it running with the dizzy, my Gunson gauge falls to zero and never sticks above that so there's only the high compression question left.
At 200psi it sucks in more fuel I suppose, weaker needle?.

Re: Engine runs on etc

Yes, sorry forgot to say, it's a 12g202 standard Minor?. main problem is running rich, plugs are very black and sooty but it needs choke as normal.
