Re: Insurance via a non-specialist (Admiral)

Yes, I did try RH (and many others) - won't insure vehicles that aren't garaged overnight (in the Great Metropolis). Dodo doesn't have that luxury (but is fitted with Thatcham rated devices and visible deterrents). I suspect it's due to the seemingly increasing number of thefts - I saw someone's Sun...

Insurance via a non-specialist (Admiral)

As my current classic specialist insurance renewal quotation has jumped up by almost £200 I've been shopping around for a new provider. I've found that a general insurer - in this case Admiral - I prepared to give me a good price. The policy will have an agreed valuation, and if I need to make a cla...

Re: Stop Boris banning classics!

I know from experience that classics aren't exempt - Dodo got a fine a couple years ago on one of the days that wasn't a Bank Holiday between Christmas and New Year :( I shall be writing to my MLA (Member of the London Assembly) as it's a local rather than national issue - fellow Londoners can find ...

Re: Lancaster Insurance

Well I chased up my renewal today for Dodo and it's more than doubled since last year! Seems that the recent spate of thefts in London (I count 5 since Oct) http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewforum.php?f=3 has really pushed up premiums :x

So sorry to read this Angel - my blood ran cold as I did, very close to home as I'm a chop-top owner north of the river. Will keep an eye out for you.

Re: Lancaster Insurance

Lancaster does seem to have become more cautious in the couple of years that I've been with them, when I came to insure my second Minor, Ursula, with them last August there were some additional restrictions which seemed odd given that her agreed value was lower than that of Dodo's. I've got a renewa...

Here are my pictures from Friday http://sdrv.ms/IrsUEr (was much quieter than the Saturday last year and manage to see all that we wanted in each hall). Ursula also had a good run - round trip of 450 miles

Re: So what do YOU want from the MMOC website?

Event listings in chronological order, I know that there's the Event forum http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewforum.php?f=64 but this doesn't seem to be used for every event nor do the events appear in date order. A summary on the home page: Date Start/End Time Event Name Location MMOC Organised With more d...

Re: So what do YOU want?

Re the Index feature a properly implemented taxonomy to tag posts with the subject matter would make searching for content much easier; e.g. Mechanical > Engine > ignition > Condenser Mechanical > Suspension > Front > Torsion bar Electrical > Lights > Indicators Bodywork > Boot > Gasket I think it's...

Re: Hello / East London mechanic?

Hi Georgia - good to see another younger London member :-) and you're not a million miles from me in Islington. I took Dodo for her MOT to Minor Mania she needed new track rod ends fitting which required re-tracking and that cost £35. Nick is the Minor specialist, I think he works there part time so...

Re: Petrol

I was trying comparing to a similar set of figures summer (if I don't do a longer run out of town the London traffic will crush any improvements). Though as I said it hardly been a scientific test. I'm quite happy with around 40MPG from my '65 1098 convertible.

Re: Petrol

I've conducted an experiment over the past 1,100 miles/5 months and have been using Shell Nitro+ to see if this improves the fuel economy. The results a marginal improvement of 0.7MPG - not enough to justify the 8p/litre premium and certainly within the margin of error given that I wasn't driving in...

Re: Spotted today.

A bit late but spotted on Saturday 3rd on the A23 London just before midday in close succession - first a late 60s white saloon turning out of Vassell Road onto Brixton Road, then a mile further south a black late Series II saloon driving north just next to Lambeth Town hall. Mad waving by all on bo...
