Re: squeeky breaks

I was looking at the workshop Manual last night and stumbled on the section of Brakes than squeal. It suggest cutting into the shoes up to the first hole which, presumably allows some flexibility and thus reduces squeal. Seems a bit radical to me but I no nuffink. what I do know is engl grammar, mos...

Re: Chassis number stamped position - on bulkhead?

Hallo,

yes it is a sweetie. Has only 23 PS so struggles a bit on any Kind of hill and there are some here it will not get up at all, even in first gear. That despite a quite well tuned side valve engine :)

But it is for the looks, the drive, the patina and the nostalgie that we drive them.

Re: Chassis number stamped position - on bulkhead?

Ja, the only reason I am looking for it, is because I had the same problem with my 1947 Austin 8 . There was also supposed to be a stamped number on the Chassis rail just above the steering box , but I never found one. So, following your suggestion ( albeit 6 years ago !!) I stamped it myself on the...

Chassis number stamped position - on bulkhead?

I am going to need to show the Chassis number to the authorities soon for my Travellers new registration. The stamped plate is not considered enough evidence. According to the Workshop Manual it is physically stamped directly on to the bulkhead next to where the accelerator cable comes out. Now I ha...

Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion

Sei froh !! Be grateful. The bureaucracy on vehicles on the continent is a nightmare but conversely good for unemployment figures as an army of civil servents operate the system. Only registering a firearm is more onerous. After a succesfull TüV which is no forgone conclusion, there is the permissio...

Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion

:D :D

Definately!

I did an emergency stop from about 60km/hr and managed to lock the front wheels so, am pleased with the effectiveness.

Who Needs discs ?? :D

The next challenge is the TüV - that will be ca €250 for historic vehicle inaugural test.

Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion

Indeed, it was a mess so I have renewed the innerds as they should be and almost exactly as shown in the manual. ( the concave washer is missing) I do not think there is an immediate need for a new cylinder. Iniitially though, even with the new set up and having reinstalled it in it he car it would ...

Re: front seats

I cannot imagine why you need to have such a measurement quoted but as it happens I have the front seats out of my '68 Traveller at the Moment and the centre to centre measurement of the holes in the bracket is 57mm.

Re: Speedo cable lubrication

I am not sure about the lubrication - although mine had grease around it . From experience however you would Need to undo both Ends. The inner cable seemed to be pullable from the speedo end but less so from the gearbox. If you do not want to go the Trouble in removing the speedo ( I had also to rem...

Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion

I was thinking along those lines too. Hopefully a new MC does come with the insides in place. I am sure it does. I was thinking that all the time I have been driving around with this! Having an engine conk out is a nuisance, having Brakes fail is not only frightening, ist " verdammt " dang...

Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion

The repair kit, i.e. replacement rubber Cups do match the Manual. What is then missing, should I reinstal as per the Manual, is the dished washer, the spring seat and the valve washer at the end. Edit : There is a circular rubber in the kit looking for ahome - this might be the valve washer which I ...

Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion

Here we go. Took off the circlip Holding the innerds of the Mc and after it exploded out, here the Picture of the parts. It does not match the exploded view in the manual at all. The valve Cup at the end is different and sems to have used the Master Cup there instead. There is no master Cup where it...

Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion

My 7/16" AF spanner was a loose fit but adequate for all but the tightest unions. The 11mm on the other Hand is a good fit and especially so if the Union is very tight and difficult to turn initially. It may well be though, along with many unusual things with my car, that a or some non-standard ...

Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion

Hallo Amgrave - that is what I think too and Roy has confirmed that the allowed 20mm free Play MUST be present. Anyway that is what I intend to do, when I get home again. Roy - to remove the push rod you need first to disconnect the swivel Connection to the brake pedal by first removing the Holding ...

Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion

My measurements have now confirmed that due to my wonderful "made in Germany" Engineering skills, the distance is shorter than it should be, therefore can either drill new holes for the MC bolts furhter back ( not very practical as to do so Need to drop the gearbox to allow working room fo...

Lovely clean engine bay - something to strive for. Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion

Very true, but remember I had to locate and drill and braze etc all the holes locating the bolts for the MC itself as well as the clutch/brake pedal set up - Thus it is quite possible that the critical distance is slightly out of tolerance, enough anyway that I did not have enough adjustment availab...
