1960 Convertible "Maurice The Morris"

WP_20181216_14_07_32_Pro.jpg This is Maurice The Morris. (I promised the lady I bought him from that I would keep the name! Not really a restoration, more just getting things done. I drove 30 miles home with almost no brakes. They have now been done. The rear gearbox mount only has one bolt, not fo...

Re: Mystery misfire

That vacuum leak was indeed the culprit. Starts much more easily and revs nicely. Not yet ben out though as the weather is foul. Next trip us to my friendly welder for a little tlc.

Re: Mystery misfire

Thanks Richard. Most of the above OK. All tappets at 12 thou. Timing by timing mark and test lamp. Believe mechanical advance working (dist. shaft springs back) Plugs at 25 thou. Since all was ok previously just the leaky vacuum possibly. Am devising a method of sealing the connection, then we shall...

Mystery misfire

I am trying to resolve a misfire on my 1960 948cc minor. It occurs when increasing the throttle after starting. It coughs and splutters, revs drop and backfires. Timing is set at 5 dedrees BTDC. Points at 15 thou. Tappets at 12 thou. All valves working as they should. But I have found that the vacuu...

Thankyou. The electric option is certainly an awful lot cheaper.

Re: Temp Gauge and 948cc Engine

My 1960 convertible has one of those temperature sensors with wire curled all round the length of the connecting line from sensor to gauge. It is obviously an "add on" and leads from a thermostat housing with an integral take off point. The thing is that it doesn't work. I have read somewhere that t...

Re: Learning to drive in a Morris Minor.

Liverpool city centre one Friday afternoon in 1964 in a BSM Morris Minor. Then bought my first car which was a 1958 Traveller which cost £245.

Re: A Minor Setback

I can recommend the DD. I have used his red rotor arms and other bits in several classics. Once I have Maurice's (previous owner's name for my latest aquisition) I shall be kitting out the distributor with his gear.

Just bought 1960 convertible. Currently rebuilding front brakes, however the overall condition is very good. One owner in the past 30 years and only two before that/ Last time I had my head under the bonnet of a Moggie was 49 years ago!
