Re: Engine runs on

It appears that I may of been a bit quick to think that this issue was gone. Could I get some advise about the different spark plugs some of you are recommending? I will check what plugs I have presently however is it possible that I have too 'hot' plugs? Would this also cause excessive engine heat...

Re: Jolting - where to start?

jack the rear up,well supported on axle stands, start it and put it into gear let clutch out so back wheels are turning get out and watch the rear wheels,if you have a flat spot or distorted tread,or any thing else amiss on the rear you will see the wobble.

sandun it would pay you to put a tie wrap round the pipe to hold it firmly against the axle, stops it chattering about and causing stress to the ends.

Re: What is the brake pipe length

not sure of actual size but usual to just take old bits off and measure them then add two or three inches to be sure they will reach,or use a length of string etc, you get rid of the excess buy simple putting a S bend in the middle, or slightly different route dosent have to be straight so long as i...

Re: Panels etc misalighment

the only fixed reference point you have on a splitty is the Centre line of the bonnet and the v on the scuttle if these are lined up then you should be able to see which bit need fettling, that's of course assuming the bonnet is square.the wings are easy to do,just open out the holes with a round fi...

Re: Cracking/flaking paint

if you are not to bothered about the look, for the time being, and intend to sort it out in the future, the main objective it to prevent further rusting, scrape off the flaking paint so you can see where the rust is and treat it with a rust converter ,many on the market, and slap paint on top. then you m...

Re: Paint blisters

the problem is exactly as described, even in a warm dry garage primer will absorb moisture.if you take the panels inside and direct a decent infrared heater onto them the blisters may go,but you risk them coming back, since they are off the car I would strip the lot back to bare metal and start again....

Re: Brake Pipe connectors

don't think I would use those, with olives, the proper way is to use male and female connectors and with a brake pipe flaring tool flare the pipe to connect the ends, its the way many systems are linked from new,and as good as new,but if you don't have a tool then you need to buy or borrow one,the prob...

Re: Brakes again

when you fit 8 in drums there is also a need to fit the larger cams,or you will always need to wind them right out .this also means that with the slightest wear on the shoes the brakes go out of adjustment.make sure you have the 8 in cams fitted, also old cams wear and can slip on application of the ...

no beehive retainers fitted could be the cause, chamfer the leading edge of shoes, have you applied the brakes hard with drums on to centralize the shoes, the cylinders should be free to move that's the design
